When transformed into Crystal Hoof, Thorax was significantly shorter than all the other horses, so my mind was that he was young, like same age as Spike XD

So like... 18 or something, but that's my headcanon XD

I never saw them as anything but full adults except in that flashback in To Change a Changeling. Not even when Thorax was Crystal Hoof (my headcanon is that he only looked younger in that form because his instinct demanded him to look unthreatening). I can't make myself see that disguise as an implication of his actual age even after people have started stating that theory

18 is my headcanon for Thorax as well. I imagine Pharynx to be like, 21 or something.

Thorax is a tiny, innocent, precious cinnamon roll, it's pretty natural to see him as a child even without the whole Crystal Hoof thing. I've always seen Thorax as an awkward teenager, around 17, maybe 18 at the most, though I personally put him at about 15.

Though I also kind of see the Mane 6 as starting out at around 17-18 themselves-- I just don't think reality has to apply to a fictional world, even one as, at times, surprisingly realistic as Equestria could be. Of course, I also have a preference for younger heroes, mostly due to 90% of the media I've grown up with having child or teenage protagonists and most adult media being... just the absolute worst.

Worth noting, seeing Thorax as a kid, or at least a very young adult, might also have to do with the fact that he's associated with Spike, who is very much a child character, and we're inclined to assume that Spike's new friend would be around his age, especially since Thorax is an adorable, innocent, precious cinnamon roll who is short and awkward and sweet and goofy.

...Or, you know, maybe it's just the Protect Buggo instinct.
