Before I begin this review, I just want to thank each and every one of you who wished me a happy birthday yesterday! You guys are amazing, and I truly did have plenty of laughs and a good time yesterday (although it wasn’t much). Again, thank you all for your birthday wishes.

With that being said, let’s get started with my review of this computer-animated film: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Now, this film has honestly exceeded my expectations as it was filled with wondrous surprises all the way through. Granted, it did have plenty of awkward moments with our main character, but the way this movie carried him made it more bearable. Once it got to the second and third acts, things were getting to become much more interesting and epic. Plus, the way this film ended was both hilarious and awesome. I’m saying this about both the ending and the actual post-credit scene. That actually made me laugh!

So, in total... I really love this movie! It’s actually great! So, here’s my remaining thoughts:

1). Miles Morales was actually an interesting character here. To be fair, he was much more compelling as a protagonist than Tom Holland’s Spider-Man ever was. Miles’ awkwardness feels more real and more bearable and not cringeworthy like Tom’s portrayal. Even though I don't care much for his high school drama, I still think he is more likable. That’s just my opinion.

2). I like how Gwen Stacy was voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, the same actress who played Charlie in the Bumblebee movie. Nice to see her again... in a way. Anyway, Gwen was okay in this film. Her Spider-Woman design was actually really good and so was her performance as one.

3). Again, this film does a perfect job of making a crossover so perfect that makes it look like a fan-service. You all know me as a huge crossover fan, so of course I would enjoy it so much! Let’s see here... we have another Peter Parker but is credited as Peter B. Parker since Miles’ own Spider-Man was killed by the main villain. Peter B. Parker was really awesome in this; he was a little unlikable at first until he became some sort of considerate mentor for Miles. The way his character was developed was really well done, and likewise for Miles. Then we also have Peni Parker and her robot companion, Peter Porker/Spider-Ham, and Spider-Man Noir. All of them were funny, fantastic, and well-written; their voice actors did a great job giving life to their characters. I also like Aunt May in this.

4). Wilson Fisk/Kingpin was actually... pretty good. In fact, I was really intrigued by his intimidating design, menacing demeanor, and interesting backstory. However, I felt that he didn’t have enough screen time to have his villain arch develop more and to see clearly how he turned into a criminal in the first place. He had that tragic backstory, he had the potential, and he had that superhuman strength to be a much more satisfying antagonist. But they didn’t expand him enough. Still, I’m glad with what I got. Liev Schreiber did a good job voicing him; man, that’s two villains I like from him. First the Storm King and now Kingpin!

Although, I can’t help but wonder... considering how massive he is, how exactly did he impregnate his wife? How did he get that big? That must have put her in the hospital after they... did it in bed....

(Awkwardly clears throat) Moving on...

5). The character development was amazingly well done, and the fight scenes were awesome. I actually approve this animation style. It’s not my favorite kind of animation, but I can stand it. As for the other villains, they were okay at best. A female Doc Ock? Hmmm, okay, that’s interesting. Miles’ uncle—Aaron who is known as the Prowler... he was really scary at first until he revealed his true identity. I was really surprised at the revelation and was saddened to see him killed off.

This entire movie handled its characters so well along with how the relationship between Miles and his father was being driven. Writers, film makers, you have truly done well. I give this a 9/10. This has now become my second favorite Spider-Man film following Spider-Man 2. I definitely would recommend this movie.

See ya!

Same here! Her design and personality were top-notch! 👌🏼

Kingpin was voices by the same dude who did the Storm King? Talk about a change of tone!

I enjoyed the movie too.

She was also cute.

Now that you mention it, I can see where you’re coming from. As a matter of fact, I recently couldn’t help but wonder if it was possible for Kingpin to make another appearance in the upcoming sequel, mainly to see if he can be expanded on more and to touch on where things will be going for him.
