Thoughts on The Cutie Pox · 10:03pm Nov 25th, 2020
So this will be the second episode where Apple Bloom is the main character. This is a "be careful what you wish for Episode" where she realizes that a magic potion isn't going to solve her problems and, in fact, makes them worse. Overall, her character hasn't progressed much from season one, with her still being the most sensitive of the three cutie mark crusaders not having a cutie mark yet. I think that this episode works as she now has an established relationship with Zecora and that she helped brew the antidote for poison joke in season one. I think, at the very least, we see a bit more of her negative traits, which one was lying to her family and friends about her new cutie mark despite not actually earning it. And even when the cutie pox was getting worse, she still refused to tell the truth. I feel the ending was really forced to tell the truth, which saves her from being a bit too convenient and contrived. But overall, it wasn't a terrible episode, but I feel that it could've been done better.
Random Thoughts
I found it interesting that Zecora was worried that everypony was still scared of her and that she hasn't "visited Ponyville" since the Episode Bridle Gossip. I liked this part because it kind of shows she still doesn't feel welcomed and is still raw about how the ponies treated her before. Continuity wise this episode must've been placed a while before the Episode Luna Eclipsed, where she was telling the story of Nightmare Moon to the foals of Ponyviile.
Pinkie Pie telling the truth about the corn cakes was actually really funny to me and was the best part of the episode.
That was funny.
