If you work near a bread slicer...

... be sure to wear cut-resistant gloves. Slicing your finger open on rapidly-moving blades is not a fun experience, nor is cleaning the wound afterwords. Safety regulations are there for a reason! I'm lucky that I still have an intact finger, and that it'll be healed up fully within a month, but that's something I hope none of you ever have to experience.

    Updates and a question

Hi everyone. Figured I'd post a little update about what's happening in case anyone's still following me. With the assistance and advice of resident Navy sailor Kaipony, I've been working for several months now on an a three-book, alternate-history World War Two naval saga that pits Celestia and Equestria against Nightmare Moon and her allies. But unlike my previous stories, which were written,

If you could erase one MLP character from existance, who would it be?

I'd get rid of Button Mash. Not because I have anything against him, but because it would spare us all from the seemingly countless incest stories he's involved in. I know every fandom has it's seeder, unsavory sides, but good God, why are so many people into stories of a grade-school child having sex with his mom, or her wanting to have sex with him? Knowing that his (non-canon) mother

    New Story: 'The Basement'

December has finally come once again! Christmas lights are up, trees are being decorated, and stores are filled with our favorite holiday music! Why not mark the occasion with some winter-themed horror?

Any sailors around here? · 6:13am Oct 15th, 2020

Hi Everyone

As I said back in April, I was going to take a break from writing to see if my drive came back. Thankfully, it has, and I've got a few stories in the works. One of them is a war-themed naval story, but as I have no experience in writing ship-related stories whatsoever, I wanted to ask if there are any readers here who have had experience in the Navy with regards to terminology, communications between senior officers during combat, etc. While following cliches and stereotypes seen in movies would be the easy way to go, I would like to err on the side of realism if possible.

If that's not possible, if anyone knows of a good guide to writing navy-themed material, I'd be grateful for a link to it.

Thanks!

While I personnally have no sea-faring experience myself, a youtuber named "the Mighty Jingles" actually served in the Royal Navy a few years back. While I'm sure he would be delighted answering any questions you have (if you ask nicely in a DM, that is xD), I could also recommend any documentary about sea combat during WW2. There are enough about them on youtube I think, and if not, then I'm pretty sure Arte has some of them on their website, and they should be at the very least have english subtitles.

I know this isn't much, but I still hope this helps. Have a nice day! ^^

Ohh, those will help. Thanks!

My personnal knowledge of naval combat is mostly about technical specification and tactics and not communication (and while its there its not that much), but I can point you to a youtube channel i've gotten a lot of info about ships from: Drachinifel.
I don't recall him actually having been part of the navy but many of his family members have and he is thus quite passionate about it.
There's contact info on his youtube channel where he post documentaries about the developpement and service life of many ships.
Hope this helps.
