This song is incredible, especially after taking into account who it's made by.
What this song evokes for me at first is a sense of adventure. I picture two adventurous lovers journeying across a small mountain range, with no sounds but the wind blowing and birds chirping, and no goal but to explore and discover and spend time together after a long journey.
At 2:24, the companions find themselves at the foot of a small mountain. The man says to the woman, "Race you to the top!" before making his way up the mountain. The woman gives chase, laughing playfully, happiness covering the lovers' entire beings, with this sequence of the song echoing as the two climb.
At 3:26, the two have made it to the summit, out of breath, as they smile at each other. The woman embraces her lover as he says, "All this I dedicate to you. This shall be our happy place. And when our journey is over, we shall return here, where we'll live out the rest of our lives. We needn't anyone but each other. I love you," as he hands her a locket containing both of their pictures.
That was two years ago. At 3:39, the woman returns to the summit. But with no smile on her face. Just a look of melancholy, clutching close to her chest the locket her lover gifted her at this very spot two years ago. She was alone, as the man, her lover, had died just a year prior to this moment, giving his life against the ultimate evil, returning peace to the world. She did not cry; no, not a tear left her face. She knew that this spot was their happy place, and crying would sully the place he had given to her what felt like long ago. As the song ends, the same sounds from that beautiful time echoing as the breeze carried her hair, she opens the locket and stares at the man's picture, reminiscing on their lives together. "Goodbye..." she says, before finally closing the locket and leaving it in the spot he'd given it to her, turning around and slowly making her way back down the mountain, a closed hand kept close to her heart.
