Greetings, everyone. Here is my review of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Just like with the last movie, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man heads on another adventure where he deals with a new unexpected villain who is seeking to destroy him and his friends. This movie was likewise underwhelming and overly bland. However, unlike its predecessor, this has good elements and actual scenes that have potential to be much better. This was slightly better than Homecoming, but it is still a below average film. Here are my thoughts on this sequel:

The plot: It was actually a little more interesting than the story was from the last film. We see Peter Parker having a vacation from his life of crime-fighting. At this time of the Infinity Timeline, Captain America is dead, Iron Man is dead, and Black Widow is dead. The other surviving Avengers are someplace else while Nick Fury calls on Spider-Man for help to assist him in tackling the elemental threats that endanger the world. With Mysterio by their side, they could potentially defeat the elemental monsters and save the world from their power. I don’t know why, but I found the close cooperation between Fury and Parker quite amusing.

Mysterio was actually a good character and ally to Spidey. For once, I was actually touched at their bonding time on that rooftop like a brother type of relationship. During the times in which they interacted, they had great moments of character development, heart-to-heart dialogue, and were full of meaning. I was like, “Wow... this is actually... touching!” But then— this happened... he becomes a mastermind villain... through a plot twist. 🤦🏻‍♂️

You have got to be kidding me. You just threw away a potentially good protagonist and turned him into a lame, generic villain with no development, no foreshadow, no hint, and no clue that he would be a bad guy. I really don’t understand why movie writers and show writers nowadays are so obsessed with out-of-the-blue plot twists. Will it hurt them if they just restrain themselves from creating a plot twist and let the story play out naturally? IT IS NOT THAT HARD TO DO!!! COME ON!! I really liked Mysterio at first until that point in the movie. Thanks a lot, guys. 🙄

Sure, the soundtrack was okay, the characters were semi-decent, and the very concept was highly interesting, but the overall execution was terrible and out of place. Nick Fury was the only legitimate good part of the whole film. Of course, Spider-Man was a bit better than his portrayal of the previous film, but he was still bad in this one too. Nevertheless, if there was one scene in particular that actually sparked my interest... it would be the post credit scene.

It was awesome to see JK Simmons reprise his iconic role of J. Jonah Jameson for a cameo. When I saw Mysterio expose Parker’s secret identity as Spider-Man to the whole city before his death, I was surprised. Seriously, that right there is a great and well-directed sequel hooker. First, his Aunt May discovered that her nephew was Spider-Man in the post credit scene of the last movie (before that, his close friend found out), then MJ found out, and now the entire city knows. Because of that alone, I am looking forward to the sequel that will be released next year. I just hope that will be a cinematic, concluding, well-written, and highly satisfying finale film.

In conclusion, this was a better movie than Homecoming but it’s still underwhelming and very disappointing. I give it a 4/10.

Peace.

I'd have knocked off 2 additional points. I knew Mystrio was up to no good.

😁Funny thing. The plot twist with Mysterio and his revealing to be a villain the whole time was one of my prime inspirations behind “A Moment of Truth”, really.

I guess it would have been interesting to keep Mysterio a hero, but I guess considering he was a villain in the comics, some would have expected it. Though it would have been a great change.

Im just gonna say it. Doctor Otto Octavius and Mister Negative were better villians in PS4 Spiderman than Mysterio in this movie, and you what makes it worse? The game did the plot twist this movie tried and failed to do extremely well, with both characters being somewhat friends with Peter, but unlike this movie, gave an actual legitimate reason for both becoming evil. Both of them having personal vendettas with Norman Osborn, with Mister Negative wanting to avenge his dead parents, and Octavius wanting revenge for Osborn fucking him over at every turn. All it would have taken was one person piping up in the writers room, saying, 'Hey guys. This plot twist with Mysterio doesn't have a reasonable catalyst, can we fix that?'.
