Pony Headcanons #26: Celestia and Luna Part 2 · 10:25am Aug 18th, 2020
As Alicorns linked to the Sun and Moon, their powers wax and wane with the circle of day and night. So, as you can imagine, during the Sun's zenith, from 12 to 12:01, ESPECIALLY during the longest day of the year, the Summer Sun Celebration/Summer Solstice, Celestia is at her strongest. She's not completely invincible, but as far as most ponies are concerned, she might as well be.
Conversely, Luna is at her strongest at midnight, usually during the Winter Solstice, from midnight to 00:01. And in the dream realm, she effectively IS invincible since even if she were to fight a Freddy Krueger like being, she has something most of those beings lack. EXPERIENCE. She likely knows the dream realm inside out and then some.
And yes, it means the other Princess is at their weakest when the other is at the strongest, and they're roughly as strong as each other during the Equinoxes. That said, Celestia at her weakest is still MUCH stronger than even most prodigies, if only due to having much more experience and more power to draw from overall.
Interesting idea. I like it, I think it makes a certain amount of sense. ^_^

Glad you like it. Also Luna's power also grows with the phases of the Moon, so her power fluctuates a bit more. So at a New Moon at noon on the Summer Solstice, she is at her weakest, but at midnight on the Winter Solstice with a full moon, she's as strong as she'll ever be.

I like that concept. Again, it kind of fits with the characters' special magic being so tied to the sun and moon.

Glad you like it. The reason they don’t always display this tremendous power is, well, see my previous headcanon thing on them. Also it’s not a battle anime where power levels are all that matter.

Of course. Like we've said before, Luna and Celestia don't go looking to show off their strength, or pick fights. That goes against pretty much everything they stand for.
