Greetings, everyone! Here is my review of Venom! My, my, my... behold with your own eyes... the new and vastly improved VENOM! Seriously, this 2018’s version of Venom is sooooo much better looking and slightly more developed than Spider-Man 3’s version of the said character. After I watched this film in the same year, I was really impressed and satisfied with how they handled Venom as far as the design, personality, and nature of the character is concerned. Despite how much I like the movie, there are a number of issues that need to be addressed which, in my opinion, could’ve made the movie much better. So let’s talk about it, shall we?

PROS
Here is what I really liked in the movie: of course, the design, the personality, and the dark nature of the main character. Tom Hardy did an excellent job voicing him as well as playing the main protagonist Eddie Brock. Eddie himself was really good; I liked how the story revolved around the difficult times he went through, how his coworkers and his girlfriend treated him, what his life was about, and how he met this sinister symbiote in a certain lab. Hardy did great in his role, and his voice acting was top-notch!

Funny thing is that he’s the same guy who played as Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. So seeing him as Venom, I was thinking, “You think the symbiote is your ally? I was born in it! Molded by it!” I can just imagine him saying something like that lol. Man, he was awesome in both films.

Anyway, I like the dynamic relationship and bond between Eddie and Venom throughout the film. You see their likes and dislikes and them getting at each other’s nerves at times.

I also liked the jokes in it. I loved the part where Venom tells Ed to jump from a building; then immediately in the nest scene, he takes an elevator which prompted the symbiote to call him a “pussy”. That was funny!

The CGI looks wonderful; well made and well executed. The action is great and properly developed as well as the soundtrack. The soundtrack may not be the best, but it is still good. The acting is good as well.

Another thing l liked was the villain: Riot. His bonding host, Carlton Drake, (played by Riz Ahmed) was quite a compelling antagonist as well. I liked Riot’s ferocious and sadistic personality and especially the way he killed his victims and the way he fought Venom during the climax. I mean, look at his weapons! His creative style of combat was very impressive in my opinion. I only wished he had more scenes in the movie to have a much more threatening presence therein.

CONS
Now, here is what I didn’t like in this film: the relationship between Venom and Eddie was underdeveloped. Previously, the former expressed how much he wanted to eat humans and cause havoc to those around him with Eddie’s help since they are in the same boat—“being losers”. Then later on, Venom suddenly changed his mind about his intentions and became a good guy/antihero.

“What changed your mind?”—Eddie

“You... you did, Eddie,”—Venom.

Umm... that was quick. Their had to be more scenes between them both to establish their character arch and their bond more strongly.

The movie is a little too short. Speaking of which, Venom doesn’t appear until near halfway through the movie. I didn’t like how he was underutilized in his own film. It focused too much on Eddie and his miserable life. But that’s just me.

Those are my main pet peeves with the movie, but everything was awesome and amazing to watch. Oh, and great post credit scene as well!
“There’s going to be Carnage...” That line alone made me hyped to see what the said villain will bring to the table in the upcoming sequel. I hope it’s better and NOT R rated. So this movie was great, fun, and very entertaining. I give it an 8/10!

Peace!

Never saw it.

This is a good movie. One of my favorite comic-films, centering around one of my favorite comic characters. Many people aren't that big on Riot, but I don't think he's that bad either. And the comedy was great. It's nice you mentioned the elevator scene. I am very excited for the sequel, as it will have my second favorite symbiote: Carnage. And because of Carnage, I feel like I might consider the sequel my favorite of the Venom movies... even though it isn't even out yet! Here's also hoping for Spider-Man to appear. It's just too bad it was pushed to June 2021...

I highly advise it. To me, it's a good movie.
