Just Why

I'm wondering something, this what some might call a Minor thing, why do stories have a Max limit of 5 main Characters? It makes very little sense, a story can have more than 5 main characters as easily as it can have 1 or 2, so why is that limit even still there? Especially with the wide breadth of characters the series and franchise has now.

I think they actually mean major characters, as for why only 5, that's to make the author focus on the characters they are using

I think the maximum of 5 is to again make the author think about the story they are writing and who the main characters are.
Don't forget they do somewhat circumvent this with the group tags (Mane 6,Shadow bolts, etc) which allows for more characters to be considered major or main

Sometimes that's not an option, and extending the limit by a bit more won't hurt anything. Personally, I would prefer it if they extended the number main character limit to 7 or 8, it would still help keep a short limit but allow you to have more individual main characters listed for the story
