Side-Project: alpha-testing Lords of Ponykeep · 4:13pm Jul 28th, 2020

A few months ago I came across a project on Twitter called Lords of Ponykeep. It's like our favorite little ungulate universe, but not. The art style is distinct, heavily inspired by Paper Mario and classic Dungeons-and-Dragons style tabletop games. The story revolves around a city in a realm kept in perpetual moonlight, and it is up to you and other players to crawl through the city's many dungeons and restore balance. Dare you all meet at the inn?

I applied for an alpha tester role and was accepted. After playing the alpha last night, I was thoroughly impressed. Azimooth and his team have done a great job so far - stable build (har har) in Unity, clean design, and a fair bit o' lore already. The version I played through was limited to a character creator with four races - earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi, and the bat-pony-like vespers, but with more four-hoofed (and tailed) races to be added later - and a small sandbox. The character creator has hundreds of customization options, but by far the most important are the "quarter runes," divided into eight bonus categories for your character's future play, everything from increased offense and defense, to immediate access to dungeon maps and treasure detection skills. I'm really looking forward to seeing the project into beta and eventual release.

Definitely not a terrible OC
