What's up everyone? So I was right, I started a sixth draft of chapter 3, and I'm here to announce that I have finally finished! Now it's going through the editing and spell checking process. I can't tell you how glad I am to finally have it over and done with. Well, I guess I could, but I'll keep it simple. Chapter 3 stumped me for a while because it felt it was extremely important to character development, and I didn't want to mess it up with clumsy dialogue or unnecessary action, as some drafts did. However, we're 15k words in the first part of the series and no action in a story ostensibly about a guard, and a rather important guard at that. Its all character development and dialogue.
While I've enjoyed it, I can't help but feel a better writer could have done the same amount of work in half the words I've used. Oh well, what's done is done, and frankly, I knew when I set out on this journey that a full rewrite would probably be needed at some point, but hopefully it will be easier the second time around. at any rate, As I said, Chapter 3 is done and should be posted next weekend sometime. This week is all about edits and starting Chapter 4. It would be nice to be a chapter or two ahead eventually with a more regular posting schedule, but one thing at a time. Ironically one of the things I have learned these last two months is not to rush things. Previously I had posted chapters mere moments after finishing them, with just a courtesy glance through for editing. Now, though, I'm taking my time and retreading the story to make sure everything lines up for later chapters. It feels good to finally be happy with what I have written. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
My last announcement is that I am going to start posting little "companion blogs" when I release a new chapter, just thoughts i had while writing (no spoilers of course). nothing important or necessary for the story, just a little something extra for those who are interested. Anyways, that's all for now. have a wonderful day!
