A weird thing about my voice and accent · 7:13pm May 12th, 2020
I'm not sure about this too much, but I've taken notice to obvious changes in my own voice as I got older, the most noticeable since recently. I spoke about this a year or two ago, I think, but your voice constantly matures, deepens and gets more distinct as you get older, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that a few changes will take place.
I'm English, with a typical Yorkshireman accent, the East dialect. Given how I grew up around my grandparents, old-fashioned tastes and old-fashioned habits in their thick accents that sticks out like a sore thumb, especially with my grandad more than grandmother. My dad does it, too, but not as thickly. I grew up with all those old Looney Tunes cartoons, too, so I ended up picking up some of those traits you hear in my grandparent's voices.
This next part likely has to do with my heritage (a suspected one, anyway), but my accent constantly shifts in and out of Yorkshireman and gets replaced by an Irish vibe. It's not as pronounced as a regal Irish person, given that I've never been there, but it happens. So far, there's on-off Yorkshireman / Irishman and also a bit of Scottish, and I have been to Scotland before. I fell in love with their accents even more when I was pondering on which clan scarf to buy and I overheard the female shopkeeper chatting to her colleagues, in such a thick but sweet accent. Suppose it won't hurt to mention I can pull a near-faultless Scottish accent, and I occasionally do so when I'm bored and am trying to entertain myself.
So, what you end up with is an English person who lives in the East part of Yorkshire and who has a randomly switching English-to-Irish-to-Scottish accent. Hell, I can even speak / act Southern if I wanted to, so that might be worth mentioning! If you've listened to my YouTube readings, you can hear it for yourself whenever I do Applejack's or Big Mac's voice.
On a side note, I have had some people comment me in the past on YouTube and once or twice on this site who can't place my accent and who have thought my voice has an Australian vibe to it. Actually, come to think of it, quite a few people have said they think I'm either Australian or British. I'd like to point out here and clarify for those few that I'm not from Australia, so sorry to disappoint! I'm an Englishman, born and bred. Lived here all my life.
I've always been curious what my heritage might be, and I have this instinctual, sneaking suspicion that I might have roots from Ireland or possibly Scotland. I'm not sure how else to really explain this, seeing as I'm no expert on this stuff, but if you want to stereotype things, I'm a massive shortbread fan and back when I used to drink, I'm a life-long fan of whiskey, Irish stout and Guinness. That sounds like the biggest stereotype out there for me in this analogy. I can't say if this means anything or not, but you can decide for yourself. What are your thoughts on this?
I could imagine you having some heritage in other parts of the isles

Eh, wouldn't surprise me much. We've all come from somewhere. Trouble is finding where exactly that is, considering our ancestors were all over the place! For all I know, I probably am part Irish and Scottish. Pass me a kilt, bagpipe, bottle of whiskey and stout and sign me up! Ay, laddie!
All in all, no matter where I'm from, I'm still proud to fly the Union Jack behind me until the day I die! 🇬🇧
(I've been a bit obsessed with my family heritage lately, actually. It's turned into a bit of a quest. )

*gives you whiskey and bagpipe*
yay for patriotism! ^_^
(never know what you may find. I wound up finding I had some ancestors from Denmark)
