About DOOM Eternal · 3:41pm Apr 2nd, 2020
Just like the image says. Eternal is fucking amazing! And yet, Doom 2016 just has something about it that makes me smile more.
Maybe I'll write a review for it in the coming days.
Also, made this post on the bethesda doom forum:why are Dr.Elena Richardson's logs dated to year 2163 when the game takes place in 2150-51? We need an expert!
Perhaps it was that Doom 2016 was so unlike anything else? It was new and fresh. A sequel, however great, and I think Eternal is truly great, rarely can live up to the feelings you get when playing something new for the first time. Eternal is an upgrade of Doom 2016 so while there are new mechanics, it doesn't feel as game changing as the one that came before. I think Eternal is better in almost every single way, but I can definitely see why people would be more attached to Doom 2016.
I have a very strong feeling people are going to feel the same way when ESVI comes out.
I can see that. Personally I like DOOM Eternal a bit more, if only for a few mechanics like the extra lives (because it took me a little to get good again) and the flamethrower and the arguably more challenging final boss, but I can see why DOOM 2016 might be thought to be better. It was a revival of doom that was awesome and incredible, and without it we wouldn’t have gotten DOOM Eternal.
Though I’m just glad Bethesda didn’t mess it up. Now we just need a normal fallout game and we’ll be set! At least Outer Worlds was great
I agree. I liked Eternal for the most part; the backstory was great and the Crucible and the Shoulder Cannon were nice additions, but the ending was a little too abrupt and having the weapons just floating in the air, waiting for the Slayer to find them was kind of annoying to me. I liked how the Slayer found the weapons in 2016, pried from the hands of dead soldiers or the chests of dead demons. That little detail made the setting feel more real than just picking them out of the air.
Late reply, I know, but I also feel the longer Dr.Richardson studies the Slayer, the stronger she will cum.
For me it is just a completionist approach. I still play Doom 2016 almost exclusively because I want to do some Ultra-Nightmare runs with various restrictive rule sets. No Pistol runs, I'm just not good enough for that, but I try a so-called Brawler mode which means minimum ammo and 3 chainsaw fuels as max which makes Doom 2016 Doom Eternal-like since demons that require 5 fuel will become immune to chainsaw, similar to Super Heavies in Eternal, also with banning certain runes, weapon mods, the Gauss Cannon completely etc. There is another one, the so-called True-Slayer Challenge which is the opposite: full ammo upgrade, free usage of any Equipment items, but no Health/Armor upgrade, only one rune and no weapon mods.
After I'm done I will shift my focus to Eternal. Also I am notorious on the DE forums by the names of Rarity, TheAnnoyingImp and Imp. That's the 3 names I use.
By the way, thanks for favoriting my story, I never thought a fellow Doom crossover author qould consider it worthy. Now I just have to finish it.
