Changeling Magic Addendum: Uncursed 'Lings can push their magic past their normal mana pool due to their cursed heritage, but they are forced to satisfy the magic debt by eating emotions to replenish the accrued life energy debt as they feel the same hunger their cursed counterparts do until it is satiated.
Starving 'Lings have an increasingly hard time suppressing the urge to feed. Near death most go completely feral and some never recover.
Magic Power Classes (Generally applied to 'Lings and unicorns. Technically applicable to other species (including Earth Ponies and Pegasi) as well if they learn how to cast spells):
Tier 0: Unlearned.
Tier 1: low level. Capable of the basic 3 abilities known as levitation, light, and a very basic mana bolt. (This is where unreformed changelings truly lie if they haven't received a power boost from feeding on other's emotions.)
Tier 2: Common Level. Capable of the above plus learning spells related to talent. Might also be able to learn some very easy spells.
Tier 3: High Level. Capable of Teleportation and several other high level spells. Lowest Level accepted to Celestia's School. Twilight at the start of the series is at this level due to lack of experience. Rarity tops out here. Teraunce floats between here and Tier 4.
Tier 4: Gifted. Highest level most mortals can reach barring specific special power boosts. Twilight's true level at the start of series. Capable of inventing new spells easily as well as learning them. Basically a Legendary figure in whatever they do.
Tier 5: Alicorn/Draconequiis. Also similar other beings and powers. World changing powers. Can break laws of reality.
Types of Magic:
Light Magic: Powered by wanting to help others and stuff like that. Also capable of purifying others. Consists mostly of healing spells. Also Fire spells.
Harmony/Friendship Magic: The power used by the 6 elements. Extremely hard to channel for spells. Generally restores bonds and purifies extreme imbalances.
Grey Magic: The standard magic used by most beings. Teleportation, Levitation, stuff like that falls here. Time Magic also falls here, but it is extraordinarily high level.
Dark Magic: Very dangerous magic powered by negative feelings, usually of rage and hate. Not to be used lightly. Can lead to Nightmareification.
Shadow Magic: An almost lost art due to most practitioners being purged along with Nightmare Moon out of fear. Contains illusion, transformation, and mind-affecting spells of a benevolent source like the memory restoration spell used to reharmonize ponies following Discord.
Black Magic: Catch-all category for spells that have no valid reason to ever be cast in polite society. Necromancy falls here, as do spells that rip the memories from others or control their mind. Also contains spells that use the lifeforce of others non-voluntarily.
Blood/Life Magic: Spells that use the life force of the casters. Very rarely used due to being a slippery slope.
Changeling Magic: Hybrid of Life, Shadow, and Grey Magic. Learnable by non-Lings with some difficulty. Uncursed 'Lings usually drop the "Life" portion due to innately generating viable amounts of mana, but in a pinch can readd the life part.
Chaos Magic: Used almost exclusively by Draconequii. Usually opposite to Harmony magic due to it usually breaking reality. Also makes Draconequii unable to usually wield Harmony Magic. Usually. Most species have a very hard time wielding Chaos Magic.
Runic Magic: Usually carved or cast into something to create temporary or permanent magic items by empowering them with energy. Non-Unicorns and 'Lings tend to externally cast spells by creating temporary runic circles externally instead of in their mind.
Ritual/Bargain Magic: using specific runic circles and offerings to achieve a desired result.
War Magic: A further extension of the above where one binds their hypothetical or real Cutie mark to something else to gain powers related to said object. The bound object must be non-sapient or willing and is generally non-living. Specific examples include Celestia and the Sun and Luna and the Moon. The binding is for life and no one soul can ever use the binding spell more than once.
