Yeah, that's definitely one way to put it. It'd really bug me if I had to make the indices like 10 blogs in and they ended up buried in the middle of a bunch of other blogs, so the obsessive organizer in me demanded I do them preemptively.
(Also, since this was prompted by finally publishing my first-ever fanfic, I figured it'd be good to get them in before anyone else started following. Minimize the number of people spammed and all.)
