me checking the dislike ratio on my new story

Glad to know bigotry is still alive and well in this fandom.

It's glad to see some of us didn't watch the same series as I did.

    So where I've been

Okay, uh... how do I begin this? Well, I suppose I should start with the obvious. Yes, I've been distracted. If you follow me on Archive that should be obvious. And if you don't, you totally should btw. Yes, I'm shameless.

Anime Gushing Part 2 · 2:15am Jan 6th, 2020

Okay, tonight I'm going to gush about two very wildly different anime. Both share plenty of the same cast, including the Queen of Anime Girls Ms. Cristina Vee. Okay, ready?

Now, Madoka. Yes, that Madoka. Now, it's really... really hard to talk about this anime without spoiling... well, just about anything really. Now, for those of you who do know what I'm going to get into, please do keep quiet and be nice enough not to say much. Now, Madoka and there's no other word for it basically murdered the idealistic Magical Girl series. There's a reason despite Nanoha existing, I call this the Gundam of Magical Girls. Because, like Gundam, once it first aired the entire genre was changed forever. Yeah, after Madoka aired you had to do things differently like say... Kill La Kill.

Oh sure, older series like Moon and Pretty Cure continued on but that's because they have a long legacy. Like, long ones. They're known and respected.

QB in Chibi. Now with extra punt potential!

Now, when Madoka came along, it introduced most of the western world to Gen the Urobutcher Urobochi. Trust me, he's not called that for nothing. It's not a joke name. I first saw him and his work in Kamen Rider Gaim, and then in the God.... wait, I'm not going to finish that as that would be acknowledging he had a hand in that travesty of an anime trilogy. Abort! Now, Madoka started off cutely enough, if not a little creepy but then episode 3 came along and hoo boy, did you get hit like a truck and man did it just keep going.

It also gave us the two most awesome magical girls in anime outside Nanoha, which trust me there is a reason I keep bringing that up. Homura Akemi and Kyoko Sakura. Now, Madoka isn't really about the titular character and yet it is. She's the focus of the real lead's desires. And also, despite what some people may say, no the ending wasn't godmodding to any extent. This is an anime about hope, despair and overcoming that despair. Knowing you're never alone, that someone is always fighting for you. Also, it's got the cutest mascot this side of... oh wait, Kyubey is an analog to child predators and Faust. Strike the fact that I said he was cute in any capacity. Also, I challenge you to find Vee in the dub. She does not voice who you'd think with her track record.

Okay, now can we move onto magical lasers of friendship? No, not the pony kind.

This kind. Her kind.

Yes, Nanoha. Now, if you haven't been watching this series, where have you been and wow do I pity you. The lesbianism is high here. And the mecha style fights. Hoo lordy, the mecha style fights. If Madoka is Gundam/Evangelion, then Nanoha is Gurren Lagann. Complete with about the same levels of explosions I think and some hot bloodedness. Also, knights and dog girls. Really, if you like to see women and little girls kicking ass and then befriending their foes... well, this is the anime for you. Take notes Twilight. This is how you befriend people.

Man, if I shoot a little girl with a laser I get arrested. Nanoha gets her future wife. ...I think we know who got the better deal hmm? Also, yes Vee is here as the titular character. She uses a variant of her Ladybug voice for those interested. Hmm, Madoka, Nanoha, and K-ON! ...I think I detect a trend here in my taste in voice actors. The series starts off tame enough, like any slice of life schoolgirl magical girl anime. Then it gets more and more progressively over the top. Soon, science fiction and such is thrown into the mix and the girl you think is the main villain turns out to have the worst parent in all of anime and you just want to sweep her into this great big hug. Shut up, and go die in a hole Precia Testarossa. You and Kyubey. Okay, good. Got that out of my system. Also, the first person who brings up Nanoha Force will get a Starlight Breaker to the face and not of the befriending kind. ....goddamnit, taking Lady Signum out like a cheap mook. grumbles

Sadly for Nanoha and company, her presence in the west is... low. Unless you're a magical girl or anime nerd you're likely not to have heard of her. She's one of the Holy Trinity of Friendship alongside Fourze and Twilight Sparkle. I'll tell you exactly what happened okay? Now, most magical girl series alright? They're marketed to well, little girls. Nanoha was marketed to older boys. I think you can see what the issue is right? Now, some may argue with me on this and I know they will but while Nanoha is not out and out hentai thankfully, it's not meant for little girls either. Now, consider the fact that Nanoha was marketed towards the older male crowd, the ones who love Gundam and the like. I think you see the problem. When the West got it, they didn't know what to do with it as their usual Magical Girl audience wasn't meant for this show. Yeah, what they should have done was say yes this is okay for little girls to watch, offered up a censored version for little girls. That would have been the smart thing. Get that normal Magical Girl fanbase flowing in and boom, it works in the west and may go beyond a cult classic here in America. But no, they don't do this and it stays Cult-Favorite outside of anime/magical girl nerds. Hell, there are manga and two movies that didn't make it over here because of this.

Not that it would matter anyway as Madoka would come along in a few years and basically murder the idealistic magical girl archetype. Funny how that works out. We're all going to sigh together okay?

I'm sad now. Oh well, thoughts and comments below eh? Maybe I'm turning a few of you into fans.

Personally I am not a violent man but I so want to give the Jason Todd treatment, ala the Joker, to Precia. Still I wonder if this is a hint of you crossing over MLP with either of these series. I am well aware of your current Nanoha story off site and am enjoying it.

Personally I am watching Gonna Be The Twin-Tail right now. Mix magic girl with Sentai and understand it is completely ment to be ridiculous. At one point the monster of the weak is chosen by a game of Jenga.

I'm nowhere near cruel enough to subject.... wait, stop, shut up! I am that cruel, and we both know it. But yeah, if I do get the idea, I probably will have Sunset and Fate punching out some giant monster together. You know I would.

........and I'm reading the TV Tropes entry for Twin-Tail and I'm torn between laughing my ass off and going what the flying fuck?

Why not both?
