Recently, someone suggested anyone who thought of alternate universes where Scootaloo is adopted by RD should just begin to write stories of Gallus.

I say no. Because it completely misses the point.

Because part of the drama was the question how thing would've gone if Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo has to face the change in dynamics that would COME with becoming family! If Scootaloo was suddenly RD's RESPONSIBILITY, instead of just a source of ego stroking, or as in later seasons, just a student to guide into becoming even greater than she was... this would leave them both having to face growth. RD is no longer just a source of inspiration, but of discipline, RD having to face the reality of CARTING Scootaloo up and down from her cloud house since Scoots can't fly by herself. Having to make ROOM for her! ... the SACRIFICES RD would have to make to provide for her! And RD having to be the one to PUNISH Scootaloo if she acts like a brat. Opposed to both being free to see each other as much, or as little as they pleased before, which is always less stressful.

That same CHANGE in dynamic doesn't exist between Gallus and say Gilda.

What would also be missing in terms of comedy and even of emotion and connection would be Rainbow Dash's interaction with the other Mane 6 about her adopting Scootaloo and being a big sister to her. Which yeah remember Rainbow Dash is the ONLY single child of the group; the others either have older or younger siblings of some kind and would obviously offer and talk about their own experiences to R.D who would likely brush a lot of it off or take it and start getting paranoid as what sometimes happen to her and that's an important part honestly of this kind of story as well.

You are doing a great job thinking about the important parts of the dynamic shift. That's one thing a lot of people would not think about in the terms of their relationship. And not to mention it's entirely likely Rainbow Dash would be functioning as a single parent to Scootaloo and the challanges that comes with. There are stretches of time where Rainbow Dash is at the Wonderbolts for days on end. Implied as they have a barracks on site. Either Rainbow Dash takes the extra time to go home each night, cutting into her sleep. She stays there and has to find someone to take care of Scootaloo while she's gone. Or figure out some way to bring Scootaloo with her, if she even could.

:rainbowhuh:Uhh ... I think I got off on a tangent. Basically you make a good point and I got distracted by the image you brought up.
-edit- Now that I know the griffon in question I can say that stories like that with a young Gallus in similar situations would have to establish a relationship where it would happen and still be different given the general emotional difference between griffins and ponies.

Right, sorry. I’ll get rid of it.

RD having to be at the bolts constantly suggesting RD would fall into the same trap as Scootaloo's aunts and parents, having to leave her alone for so long and having to pander her off to others (like her Aunts), which RD couldn't bear to do to Scootaloo a THIRD TIME. A friend of mine has suggested repeatedly that RD's parents would adopt Scootaloo instead averting this, so the two would be sisters legally.

Good work around, and would certainly be something they would do if it were an option. And I could see Bow and Windy moving to Ponyville for it too as to avoid uprooting Scootaloo and to be closer to Rainbow Dash. They are way to supportive.

And that in turn creates Drama as RD now has to deal with the reality of her parents being closer now, and coming to terms with them smothering her.

Quite true. There had to be a reason she moved to Ponyville instead of staying in Cloudsdale when she wanted to be a Wonderbolt. An organization with it's headquarters located in Cloudsdale.

Yeah, its kind of dumb. First and probably largest: by the time we meet him Gallus is an older teenager who will probably be considered an adult by the time he graduates. Anyone adopting him is not going to shape a child the way someone adopting Scootaloo would. (Though I am reading an excellent story about Gallus spending his summer at Mount Aris with Silverstream to get that love and closeness he desperately craves).

Second, part of the whole Scoota-orphan thing was that it contrasted this one unlucky filly with the cheerful, bucolic ponyville to wring extra pathos out. But how much worse off is Gallus living with his bitter, greedy caretaker, than every other non-orphan griffon living with their bitter, greedy parents? Gallus really only expresses a wish that he had more of a family once he learns more about loving, non-Griffon families in the show.

Third, and probably most relevant to the writers, is that a ton of people writing about Scootaloo being adopted by Rainbow Dash are doing it in part because they want to show Rainbow's character growth and the challenge of becoming an authority figure to someone who idolizes her. A Gallus story wouldn't have that unless you have Rainbow be the one to adopt Gallus, and even then it wouldn't have the same impact because Gallus has some faint respect for Rainbow but that's it.
