Asking a (possibly controversial) question about Pride Month · 8:37pm Jun 9th, 2019
I'll probably get flak for this, but here we go: Why is it we have only one day dedicated to our veterans, but an entire month dedicated to gay people? I don't have a problem with the LGBT community or anything, nor do I consider a pride celebration unnecessary, but I personally find it strangely disproportional. Being born a certain way, and not really anything else earns an entire month, while choosing to enlist and risk your life for your entire country only warrants a day. Am I the only one who finds that really strange? Again, no hate intended towards the LGBT community, I just don't understand that.
Historically speaking, LGBT folk in America have been targeted aggressively for reasons including but not limited to Religous Principles, Stigma, and Social Opinion.
Killing someone who wasn't straight, was for a long time, not considered to be a murder; and in some circumstances it was something to be applauded.
The further back you look in history, the worse it gets.
I'm assuming you are a US Citizen, yes?
Consider this:
Can you spot a period in American History where it was normal or encouraged for an American Citizen to kill or harass a uniformed soldier? Can you find any religous passages that specifically call for the death of American Soliders?
Pride Month for most LGBT people is more about celebrating how far society has gone from labeling them as subhuman to acceptance in some regions, and also with optimism that things will get better.
Do our armed forces deserve more respect?
Yes.
Do they deserve a month?
No. They deserve the entire year: and if you are a US Citizen; you honor their bravery every day you fulfill your civic duty and invoke your civil liberties.
Being LGBT myself I don't really see the point of this month but that is just me. I do agree with the one before you the army deserves more.
I honestly don't know. I personally think the idea of the month is not needed at all. Why are you prideful just because you are LGBT? You should see yourself beyond your sexual preference and orientation just the same you should see beyond your skin color. I don't want people to see me by my sexual preference or skin color or anything, just as an individual. And I want to see others as just that, an individual, I think these months only make it harder to do that
