Notre Dame has survived yet another tragedy. While the belltowers and the facade, and a majority of the artifacts, have been saved, most of the interior and the famed spire was not so lucky. but Notre Dame had been damaged before and it will likely happen again in the future. and every time it happens, it will be rebuilt.
as for the cause, nobody really knows. they were doing renovations for a few days before this happened, so maybe something went bad- a loose spark from a welder or a bad plug, perhaps? the cause will be found out eventually.

And those articles are right; Notre Dame has survived going through hell before, and was rebuilt, just like all those others.
Heck, Windsor Castle had a really bad fire several years ago, and was fully restored.
Notre Dame will be, too.
People who do construction on projects like this take extreme precautions to avoid just such a thing. Could be a really tragic accident, but I feel it was likely intentional.

Glad to here it survive, this whole thing reminded me of the Primark (Banks Building) fire that happened several months ago they're still doing work on the building

i know, right? sometimes, nobody is at fault. sometimes, it is just a accident. if someone did cause this on purpose, wouldn't they do it where the artifacts were or at load-bearing locations? do the most damage?
and let's play devils advocate and say someone did do this on purpose to try and wedge a steak into France's heart, they failed. it's just like that terror attack on the magazine a few years ago: instead of dividing, it instead united them and made them stronger. so if this was a terror attack, it did the opposite.

Because so much precaution goes into renovating someplace like Notre Dame Cathedral. With all the safety precautions taken by the workers to prevent something like this I find it a bit hard to believe that it was just so astronomically unlucky that an accident happened anyway. To me deliberate arson seems more plausible
