Comparison of Revenge Plots · 7:15pm Apr 14th, 2019
Starlight's revenge wasn't even a revenge, just a fan-service moment for the show of MLP. Why do I say that? It's because the revenge plot doesn't have what is necessary for it to take off.
- A credible motive. Starlight's isn't credible at all. She wants revenge because of what they did to her town? Come on. Louise Grantham Robilotti she isn't.
- The revenge needs to have a simple structure. Time travel isn't a simple structure. It demands a lot more time dedicated to the worlds to truly understand why the “friendship” is good and it goes by too damn fast. The worlds have no time to be utilized. Louise Grantham Robilotti she isn't.
- The person seeking the revenge needs to enjoy a modicum of success. Starlight did not enjoy any sort of success. Louise Grantham Robilotti she isn't.
- The revenge seeker's true colors need to be revealed either by actions or by her own words. Starlight's words only revealed she's an immature brat who needs a good swift pop to the nose and a belt to the ass. Louise Grantham Robilotti she isn't.
- Revenge plots should only be complicated by the lies and cover-ups of others. Starlight's “revenge” was nothing more than a “what if this had happened” story, which anyone can write. Louise Grantham Robilotti she isn't.
As for the worlds themselves...they aren't anything special. Sombra's at war? Would have happened any way you slice it. Nightmare Moon rules Equestria? Would have happened any way you slice it. Chrysalis took over? Would have happened any way you slice it.
I've compared Starlight to Louise Grantham Robilotti from Champagne for One by Rex Stout. Unlike Starlight, Louise had a reason for everything-so Spoilers. She poisoned the illegitimate daughter of her husband, Albert Grantham and Elaine Usher to get even with her husband who cheated on her, then she tried to get the authorities to get it claimed as suicide (and in the process made an offensive proposal to Archie Goodwin and by extension Nero Wolfe) and this lead to her being nailed for the murder and the final nail in the coffin was that it was found out, by the police, that she bought the poison that took Ms. Faith Usher's life.
During Wolfe's investigations into the “suicide”, Mrs. Robilotti was enjoying the success of her deeds.
And here's something else in comparing the two-the other affairs.
In Champagne for One Mrs. Robilotti let Faith Usher come to the party so she could kill her. One may ask “How Mrs. Robilotti knew about the poison?” but it's made clear that Faith always carried around a bottle of cyanide and talked of suicide (which explains how she came up with the idea of suicide)
In the episode-how did Starlight come across such a powerful spell if it was under lock, key, enchantment and keen eyes? Surely someone would have seen her. How does she know about Starswirl if she never ventured out of her town? She wouldn't. Information on him is kept in Canterlot.
None of the revenge makes sense as we don't see the revenge itself nor do we see Starlight enjoying any form of success. It was wasted on the flashes called worlds. Honestly, find yourself the book I compared everything to and read that. It's a revenge plot that is miles superior.
