Season 9 Opening Episodes (Spoilers) · 4:25am Apr 7th, 2019
So I gotta see the new episodes of Season 9 of MLP FIM (the last season of canon, though not the end of the fandom as many fear it to be), and I gotta say it was pretty much as I expected... good but some flaws in it of course.
- Celestia and Luna suddenly retiring and giving the throne to Twilight Sparkle... not that I'm complaining about Celestia taking a back seat in governing for a 1000 years plus without Luna, but both sisters suddenly doing so cause of the 'longest period of peace' due to the Mane 6? First of all, who would still raise the sun and moon if they are gone? The unicorns? Twilight? It's like giving a sophomore a learner's license and expecting him/her to pilot a passenger airplane with hundreds of lives on board and expecting them to not mess it up.
- The friendship journal does not equate to politics and proper governing of a kingdom... it does not help with keeping up with finances or the judiceral system of said kingdom.
- Going back to Twilight, stress-prone and hyperventilating control freak... does not mix well for any leader of a nation.
- Discord's troll about the predictably of the ponies' reactions is kind of spot on.
- Twilighting is now a new word in the Equestrian Dictionary
- Rainbow Dash was spot on... Celestia and Luna almost never help at all (I think I can imagine them with a bag of chips and soda reclining to the chaos that happens... with Discord being host).
- The intro of Grogar is quite an interesting feature... almost like Vandal Savage (where he summons the villains of the heroes and orchestrates a plan to eradicate them)
- Now I dunno much about G1, but this Grogar being the first emperor of Equestria to the creatures of darkness sounds pretty interesting... but what kind of name is Gusty the Great (who banished Grogar)?
- Speaking of villains.... Sombra's voice does not match up at all. I would have rather preferred him being voiced by Jeremy Irons or Jim Cummings (it could be worse)
- Sombra going out on his own... we all know how that will end :P
- Cozy Glow, even though I think putting her in Tartarus was kind of overkill... she really reminds me of Darla Dimple from "Cats don't dance"
- Starlight being Headmaster of the school.... now it's her turn to go Twilighting
- Poor Spike... when will he ever get a break?
- Cadance calling on Twilight to save the Crystal Empire... you'd think the guards would be more competent in later seasons (but this falls under South Park and Harry Potter syndrome... adults are useless, let kids/teens save the day rather).
- Sombra putting Flurry Heart in a muzzle... yeah, he's one foot in the grave and about to sleep on a banana peel with the other.
- Fear being used as a psychological weapon... sorry Sombra, but Batman's Scarecrow did it better.
- So the Tree of Harmony is now gone... oh no, what are we going to do now!?
- The moment they are all mentioning every pony they love being under Sombra's rule in Ponyville... I did not hear one mention of the best Cutie Mark Crusader... Scootaloo:
- Once again, Pinkie's mane defies becomes an all-in-one plot device.
- Without the elements... Twilight's magic is not stronger than Sombra's? Yeah... not falling for that.
- Pinkie's right, that is an ugly cake.
- Starswirl doing a Gandalf on the Everfree Forest... that was unexpected.
- Celestia and Luna actually doing something? Wow...
- Everyone vs Mane 6... now all we need is proper music*:

- More Fluttercord moments... now all she needs to do is introduce him to her parents.
- Discord's speech was very sappy, yet moving...
- Sombra's death:
- Celestia and Luna returning to the thrones... called it.
- Discord... Equestria's Immortal Troll
- Let's hope there will be some epic battles involving Grogar in the future.
Overall, I enjoyed this opening the finale season of MLP FIM... some flaws in it, but not too much to make it cringe worthy...
Thus I'll give this an...
Now with the final season upon us... I'll like to tell you all this... don't cry cause it's ending, rather rejoice that it happened. Also, this is not the end of the fandom... many defunct shows/movies/books etc's fandoms still go on to this day... So just relax and keep on ponying to the end of G4... and the beginning of G5.
*I can see Discord singing this at the end:
Gusty was a G1 unicorn (hilariously in hindsight, she was voiced by Nancy Cartwright, who was/is the VA for Bart Simpson. You can hear the beginnings of him in Gusty). She obviously got "The Great" tag on her name for laying down an asswhupping after G1.
Grogar lost once to ponies in Return of Tambelon, but it was North Star & Megan who rang his bell back then
Plus I didn’t see one reason why Twilight didn’t do what she did back in S1E2 to fix them continuity MLP staff you’ve done it before
Well. it was a nice start for the last season, with the villain team getting together and Sombra being... Underwhelming again. He looked cool and I liked his voice (he sounded as arrogant as I thought he would) but in the end he didn't do that much before being vaporized. Though I guess that was to be expected, he was just an appetizer for what's coming.
