Persist and Beyond (November 1st, 2012) · 3:28am Nov 2nd, 2012

Well, it's been a few months, hasn't it? Really, only about 3, but that's still a fair amount of time.

So, I'm putting this up because Persist was approved earlier and posted. Funnily enough, this actually isn't the story that I've been working on in the past few months; it's a different story entirely.

Persist was originally going to be an entry in EQD's horror fanfiction contest they just ran. I ended up not making the deadline, but I decided to finish the story anyways, and then edit it, and hopefully post it before Halloween. (A deadline that I almost made, and, honestly, probably could have had I worked on it a bit more than I did.)

Now, the problem with the story is that I have no idea how to judge it or anything of the sort. I've only read one Stephen King book, and it wasn't any of his horror novels, and other than that, I've read a grand total of zero horror novels, short stories, or anything of the like. (Unless you count an excerpt from one of H.P. Lovecraft's stories, but it was so short that I don't.) As a result, this could be complete crap, and I have no idea. Granted, it isn't full out horror, which is one of the reasons why I didn't try to push its completion to the contest deadline. I tried to get it there at first, but I then realized it wasn't that creepy, and it evolved into what it is now, which I'd describe as a psychological tragedy. (Though I'm not entirely certain if that would be an accurate description.) It's completely outside of the realm of anything I've written before, and I honestly thought I would never write anything like it, so the genre was almost entirely foreign to me.

Regardless, I gave it my best shot, and I think it's helped me improve a little, as all writing does to anyone. Not much, but I believe it was worthwhile. Now, hopefully someone out there actually likes it. x] If not, I'd love to know why, since any tiny tidbits of advice and information help.

Anyways, now that Persist has been posted, I'll most likely get back to work on the other story once more. It's more within my comfort zone as far as genres go, but we'll see how it turns out in the end. (If it gets to the end. I might hit a roadblock at some point and end up scrapping it; you never know.)

Thank you for reading, and hopefully you enjoy. :)
