Non Pony topic -- I'm talkin' Mega Man. · 4:05am Oct 2nd, 2018
Mega Man 11 is ten minutes away from playability on my PS4, and this is my only active to semi-active blog. So I'm'a talkin' Mega Man :)
I've been a huge fan of the series since the 80's. I first played Mega Man 2 at a friend's house, but first owned Mega Man 3. My parents (specifically my mom) were a bit distrustful of video games, so I actually got my NES rather late into its lifespan. We got Mega Man 5 about a year after having Mega Man 3. What this kinda means to me is that Mega Man 3 has a permanent spot as my favorite of the classic series (Doc Robot levels and all. Actually, I really like the Doc Robot levels) and I have a nostalgic space in my heart for Mega Man 5, despite the internet apparently deciding it's one of the weaker entries. Incidentally, Mega Man 2 actually hovers around 3-4 in my favorites list. I recognize its historical importance to the series, but objectively its laughable weapon balance (you got the Metal Blade, then... everything else) coupled with its awesomeness taking a rather severe nosedive during the final 2 to 3 Wily levels kinda hurts the experience as a whole (especially the room with the crystals that are only weak to the Crash Bomber).
I am glad that Mega Man 11 is actually a "modern" game, graphically. As I actually like Mega Man 7 and Mega Man 8, it's always sort of ground my gears how many within the Mega Man community and Capcom, for that matter, have this thought that Mega Man can only work in an 8 bit environment.
That said, the 8 bit thing works great for fangames. Makes them a little easier to produce, so I'm all behind that. Mega Pony has a permanent place in my games folder, and is probably the only Mega Man "Fusion" game I've played that successfully fuses the two properties successfully. It really is both about Ponies and Mega Man and I like that.
Well, Mega Man 11 is now on my system, so I'm ending this semi-pointless rant rant play a video game 'till the sun comes up. :)
