Ant-Man and the Wasp Impressions (Spoilers) · 6:49pm Jul 10th, 2018
Spoilers ahead.
Following Infinity War and its ending, this is exactly the movie Marvel needed to give the audience a quick breather before Captain Marvel and Avengers 4. It’s a really fun and enjoyable movie.
Following his brief trip to Germany to help Captain America, Scott Lang decided to negotiate himself into being put under house arrest so he could spend time with his daughter. His trip also forced Hank and Hope to be on the run, so he’s no longer in contact with them.
On his last days of house arrest, Scott saw a vision of Janet Van Dyne, Hank’s wife and Hope’s mother. This puts him on another adventure to find the tools necessary to help build a Quantum Tunnel to save her before times run out. Luckily, he has Hope donning the new Wasp suit joining him on the frontlines this time.
Along the way they cross paths with the mysterious Ghost, mobster Sonny Burch and Jimmy Woo, a FBI agent who’s out to prove that Scott broke his house arrest terms and catch Hope and Hank.
The movie was a blast from start to finish. It was pure fun and fulfilled it’s purpose in worldbuilding. Yeah, it had low stakes, but after Infinity War I felt that it was the perfect follow-up because of that. There was funny moments and heartwarming moments, and every character got a moment to shine.
Despite the amount of antagonists, the movie does a good job of balancing them. The main priority was stopping Ghost while Sonny and Jimmy are there to antagonize the heroes for their own reasons. And Ghost continues the growing trend of good and interesting main MCU antagonists.
The highlight for me was Scott and Cassie’s interactions. Those two are seriously wholesome and every scene with the two of them ended with a goofy smile on my face. The whole family is wholesome now that I think about it. Scott’s ex-wife and Cassie’s step-dad really do like him too and there’s no sense of animosity among them.
And there’s Luis, Dave, and Kurt once again proving themselves as one of the best supporting cast in a Marvel film. Of course, Luis shows he’s a master storyteller, but this time the context is even more hilarious.
And for the brief screentime she got, Janet has shown to be a great addition to the Ant-Man cast. You know, with the Pym/Van Dyne family reunited, Ghost’s fate, and Scott finally off house arrest, you think it’s a happy ending, right?
Nope. While Scott’s in the Quantum Realm looking to help cure Ghost’s condition, Hope, Hank and Janet all turn to dust thanks to the Snap, leaving Scott trapped in there for what looks to be quite a while.
The stakes continue to be raised, the MCU is in its darkest hour, and it looks like Ant-Man might be the key to setting right what went wrong.
Besides that, I recommend seeing this movie. It’s fun, and simple, but just enough to be enjoyable.
Like the Atom, a shrinkable man shall be good to prevent a Great Disaster
The ending gave me chills. Ant-Man is the key to all of this...
