Update for June 2018 · 9:36pm Jun 30th, 2018
The good news is, I have a permanent job now (and it's one that I love). The less-good news is that life prior to this was not conducive to hobbies.
My FIM-related queue is:
- Finish marking up iisaw's fic and send the last section to him.
- Do a detailed analysis of Bad Horse's code and dataset and send the conclusions to him.
- Get my incomplete short-ponyfics in order.
Timeframe for these is unknown.
Great to hear you're still working on it! I really need to post some more of my results. And the survey results. And write the talks I'm supposed to give in July. And arrange the Bronycon writers' dinner. Argh.
So what's the job? Maybe that's a rude question, since you didn't tell us, and probably would have if you'd wanted to. I don't know. I still don't really understand humans.

I'm ostensibly a research scientist. In practice, I'm building the equipment that my boss and his grad students use for research, herd
catsvendors, and provide mentoring and technical input where needed.Until recently I was the only signal processing person or heavy-duty software person in the lab. I'm still the only electronics person, and I'm also still the closest thing we have to a mechanical engineer. This has resulted in me being overcommitted, which is why the compute server I was hired to build has been sitting in mothballs for half a year.
It's still lots of fun. Living a 15-minute walk from work instead of a 1.5 hour commute from work helps too.
