Some of you know of my story The Different World, in which mares are intelligent anthro ponies, and the stallions are primitive quadrupedal creatures. It's definitely a creative exercise, but, I wonder if I should incorporate geldings into it, or make another alternate universe where it is a thing. Where the stallions are treated more like workhorses rather than members of society.
This could lead to things such as designer males, eugenics, breeding programs, slave markets, blatant sexism. It would be a way to explore a very different and dark Equestria in which a stallion's life is only worth as much coin as he can fetch for his family.
Or make it lighthearted, where the gelding is just seen as necessary for the betterment of the species, and they are still loved and adored by the intelligent females who care them.
The possibilities of castration are not explored enough yet.
And of course this would also extend to other races, like the yaks, dragons, griffons, hippogriffs, seaponies, diamond dogs etc.
