Okay, here's the deal: I'm going to watch the new episode and I'll post my thoughts on it as I watch this. Kind of like a blind reaction. Spoilers, obviously. I might make this a weekly thing. Anywho, here goes!
Okay, first off, why does repeated viewing of the new intro make me tear up? I don't know if it's because the end seems to be in sight or if the series has come such a long way, or both.
Nice to see Maud's underground Ponyville-adjacent dwelling again. I love pleasant surprises. ^_^

Ah, so this is Maud's boyfriend. Yes, I know about him. Damn you, episode synopses!
Oh god, he's basically Sheldon from Big Bang Theory in pony form. I can see it now... *knock knock knock* Pinkie! *knock knock knock* Pinkie!
"Choosing between 'goodbye' and 'see you later'"?! Ummmm...
Jeez, this guy is more literal-minded than Maud! Never thought I'd say that.
Dammit Pinkie, let your sister speak!
"Technically, we're 'in like'." Okay, now I see the connection.
"We have a lot in common." Okay, so at this point I see Maud's new boyfriend as an irritating version of her.
"Is Boulder jealous?" Best line of the episode so far!
So his name's Mud Briar. Even their names sound similar.
This episode really seems to like the Rule of Three.

He likes sticks. If someone hasn't made a "sticks and stones" joke while watching this, I'll lose faith in humanity. =P
"It was a petrified wood show." Oh god, the innuendo possibilities! XD
Dude, Maud smiled while talking to him! That's a big deal!...Right?

"That is stick abuse!" If that doesn't become a meme faster than "20% cooler"...that almost made me crack up!
Okay, a rock pet makes sense. But a STICK pet...what.
The stick's name is Twiggy. Heh.
Unless I've lost count, that's the third time this episode has used the Rule of Three. Do I hear four?
The more Pinkie talks about him, the more Mud Briar sounds like a prefect match.
Why did I feel a sense of impending doom looming over my shoulder when Starlight told Pinkie to plan the party with Mud Briar?

While she does have a point (I think), Pinkie could probably be handling this better.

Mud Briar wrapping up a log reminds me of the song from Ren and Stimpy. "What rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs? Rolls over your neighbor's dog? It fits on your back, it's great for a snack, it's Log, Log Log!" XD (I didn't want to take up too much space completing the tune)
Well, I'm glad Mud Briar turned out to be a decent and quirky guy. I thought he was going to be a total asshole from the sound of the synopsis.
Took me a while to realize what they were doing with that Maud cutout. But it does support a theory I've had for a while that all the background ponies are naive fools.
