Everything Wrong with Nostalgia Critic's Beauty and the Beast Review · 7:01pm Mar 31st, 2018
I am a Nostalgia Critic fan. I've been a fan a day before he took his break as the Nostalgia Critic. Anyways, i have been supportive of his videos, reviews and rants. However, this is the third time i have disliked one of his reviews. (The first two being his Bart's Nightmare and Hocus Pocus Reviews)
Before i start, i want to state my history with the live action Disney movies. I understand Disney is a gigantic company with a number of live action and animated movies under their belt. However, i didn't understand their need to remake their animated movies into live action versions. I didn't like these movies. I partially liked Maleficent, I am still confused about the Alice in Wonderland movies, and i hated Jungle Book. It was for these reasons that i boycotted the live action Disney movies.
As i got into the car with my brother debating about Jungle Book, i told him this, "Okay bro, the next live action movie that comes out, i will see it."
As i made my bed, the next Live Action Disney film that came out was Beauty and the Beast. I went to see it and i loved it. I am not sure if i am the only one, but i felt this review wasn't as good as it should have been. While i love the live action Disney movie, i know it's full of holes. All the best movies have holes in them just as any bad movies. So, let's pick apart this review and see what holes i can find.
2:30-3:10: I love the animated Beauty and the Beast. It is my third favorite Disney Film (Behind Lion King and Zootopia). Despite my love for the movie, i still feel the film has it's faults. After all, no movie is perfect. When i saw the Live Action version, i saw the mistakes they fixed, but also has mistakes of it's own. It's a movie, what can you do? So, Nostalgia Critic, hit me with your best shot.
3:31: That's what i noticed in a lot of these movies. Each of the Live Action Disney Films told their stories in a world in their movies. Each of them weren't a retelling of the same animated movie they had before. Jungle Book was different, Maleficent was different, Alice in Wonderland was different. I think even Cinderella changed things up. Much like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast changed things up while staying true to the ORIGNIAL tale.
4:25: You get one point, NC.
4:53: Hey now, this actually explains why no one remembers the castle in the animated version. I am sure this movie creates plot holes, but at least this movies does it's best to explain the plot holes in the Animated Disney version.
5:02: Okay, this has bothered me in the live action version. Why is her house in the middle of town? In the animated movie, it makes sense that she is outside of town. Making more sense that Belle is odd.
5:26: Say what you want about Emma Watson as Belle, she does do a fantastic job playing the role. She even got the approval from Paige O'Hara (Animated) and Susan Egan (Played Belle on Stage and is the voice of Megara from Hercules).
8:10: Geez, what do you have against Belle in learning about her mother? At least she gets mentioned in this version. The Disney Animated Movie gave her the boot.
9:00: I like this addition. It shows that the film makers are not only drawing inspiration from the animated movie, but the original fairy tale as well.
9:15: Another change that i approve of. It adds to her character for the better. A plot point i wished was explored more, but i'll take what i can get.
10:10: Of course that doesn't sound at all sexist. "Let woman use washing machine" oh my gosh, you're right. Anyways, let's move on.
10:22: Gaston: Fine, if i can't have you no one can. Gees, did Gaston become the first Yandere?
11:43: I would be scared too if i saw inanimate objects trying to talk me. Just the other day i was looking at myself in a pond and a Koi Fish tried to talk to me. I am sorry, i was in no mood of singing "Swim this way", I GTFO immediately.
13:05-14:38: I would like to argue this point. I understand the relationship is where the two movies differ. So, i will try my best to defend the Beast's actions.
The Beast was raised by his cruel father. He was raised on that high society attitude. This affects his upbringing and thus makes him cruel. Belle's Father ate his food, sat by his fire, drinking from his cup and stole a rose before he got out of there. I am sure the Beast isn't going to take this sitting down. While i also wished the Beast had more compassion, remember his upbringing. He is only this way because of the cruel teachings of his father.
16:13: I was not a big fan when i first heard Ewan McGregor as Lumiere. He's probably the only character in this movie i am half and half on. While he doesn't live up to the Animated Disney version, I still think Ewan's version of Lumiere is still expressive enough.
17:53: While i admit this scene was rushed, it still has purpose. The Beast in both version felt that if Belle had touched the rose, the curse would have sped up.
18:30: I don't swear all that much but FUCK you NC. That is my favorite moment of Beauty and the Beast and that moment captured it perfectly. I think one of my favorite moments of Groom of Eris is when the AW included that moment. Actually, if you have anyone you want to thank for the AW putting up that scene, you have me to thank.
20:00: It's a live action Disney movie, of course the romance would be different. Not every adaptation of Beauty and the Beast is going to be the same. Of course there are changes.
20:20: Well, it happens similarly. He really doesn't take her to the library to take her mind off romance. He shows her more variety. Two, he shows it off like the arrogant prince that he is.
20:26-22:14: One, STOP CALLING THE ANIMATED MOVIE THE ORIGNIAL! I understand that you probably mean in the Animated Disney movie, but you do realize if you call it Original then you are either referring to the Fairy Tale, the orignial Movie, the Stage Play, etc. There have been other Beauty and the Beast movie before Disney got a chance to tell their version.
Two, if my memory serves me correctly, the Stage Musical also had that 'If curse is not broken, they become inanimate objects' plot point. Why are you acting like this is something new? While i also like to point out something else. This very plot point comes across as the sense of urgency of breaking the spell. That's why this movie has more conflict than in the animated version.
Yeah i said it. The live action version has more conflict than the Animated movie.
22:49: Okay two things.
1. The Enchantress created the book to torture the beast. That no matter where he goes, he will be laughed at or feared for his hideous appearance. I believe that this movie is the first time i am hearing about this concept and i love it.
2. *Cocks gun* IF I HEAR ANOTHER PERSON SAY "BEAUTY AND THE BEAST IS A STOCKHOLM MOVIE" AGAIN, I AM GOING TO LOSE IT. If i do a collaboration with Misskoifishpony, the first collaboration i want to do with her is stating why Beauty and the Beast isn't a movie about Stockholm Syndrome. UGH.
24:03: You have a point. While i felt this moment could have been slowed down for time. I also felt that it was just enough to suck me into the romance. Dancing like this exists for romances or building up friendships. It's worked with Star Vs., Steven Universe, Adventure time and other shows and movies. Plus, there was another production that did this scene much better.
24:21: To be honest, it really doesn't matter who sings it. Just as long as they sing it well enough. Emma Thompson and Audra McDonald do sing it perfectly.
25:22: *To the Nostalgia Critic* I HATE YOU!
26:20: I'm not going to lie. I cried during two scenes of this movie. One, is where they are turned into inanimate objects and two was during the death scene of the beast.
26:59: Not going to lie, this enchantress was messed up. But, all Enchantresses, witches and wizards go far to teach heroes a lesson. Are you really surprised by this point. No wonder why she was expelled from Howarts or maybe a former Death Eater.
Anyways, that is my review of the Everything wrong with the Nostalgia Critic's Beauty and the Beast review . While the review did have some interesting points about the flaws of this movie, i found some pretty stunning flaws of this review. I am not angry that the NC didn't like this movie. I just didn't like the fact that he was praising the Animated Version despise that movie having a number of problems and plot holes. While the Live Action movie does have problems of it's own, i still liked it for all that it is worth.
This review was just bad in my opinion. While i may have issues with one to two things on his other reviews, i felt he missed some of the biggest problems if he actually researched this movie. Either way, i could be right or wrong on this review. There are other Beauty and the Beast adaptations to look at.

However, it's going to be a while before i state the problems with this story. So, i am the Autistic Writer. Until next time, see you later.
