The Phantasmal Plot Hole

Well, shit.
Startling new developments are happening all the time in the worlds of Team Fortress 2 and My Little Pony. I want to keep my story consistent with both continuities, as I've previously mentioned. Now, with My Little Pony, it's easy, because I can simply say the events of The RED Cataclysm happen between the events of Season 2 and Season 3. Which they do, by the way. Did I not mention that? Because they totally do. But with Team Fortress 2, it's trickier. I've stated that the team's been employed for 16 years starting in 1967. Therefore, it's currently the year 1983, faaar into the future. Therefore, everything that is currently happening in the continuity of Team Fortress 2 has already happened in the continuity of Cataclysm. That's good for me, in a way, because I get to make all kinds of fun 70s-to-early-80s pop culture references. But it's also very inconvenient.
For example, earlier today, the setup of the upcoming Fourth Annual Scream Fortress update were announced. Therein, the details of Merasmus the Magician's living situation at the time were revealed. Fitting this into the continuity of Cataclysm, on Earth-VC20-Prime, in the year 1972, the castle that Merasmus the Magician had been living in became a national raccoon reserve, and Merasmus himself became a ghost hell-bent on destroying the RED Team.
Shit.
This development has ripped several plot holes in the fabric of my story, the most prominent being that Merasmus is still alive. And now I have to take these new developments into account. It's safe to say I'll have to spend some time tomorrow fighting a ghost wizard in order to figure out his weaknesses. This isn't going to be easy, people, but I'm going to do it. For you. Because I CARE, that's why. I'm DEDICATED. METICULOUS. You might even say I'm a PERFECTIONIST. Oh yeah, and I'll also have to figure out how to fix the plot holes once I'm done celebrating Hallo--I mean, fighting Merasmus. Don't expect any new chapters while I get this fixed, people.
Incidentally, apropos of nothing, did anyone else notice that the Expert Mann Vs. Machine course for Coal Town was named "Cataclysm"? I squealed like a little girl when I noticed.
