Update: He booked Tenerife.
Okay, so my borther's a bit of a crazy idiot and he likes to go off on random spontaneous last-minute adventures just for a few days. Usually it'll just be to London or somewhere he can travel to by train but this time he's decided he wants to go abroad. Sooo anyway, to cut a long story short, he's been looking at any last-minute flights he can get and has decided on going either to New York or Tenerife, though having never been to either of these destinations, he doesn't have a clue. So if anyone has been to either place, or can offer any suggestion, please do share, help my maniac brother to come to a conclusion 
I have been to New York City. It can be a cool place, but itâs probably for the best to know what youâre doing before you even go there.

Ehh he doesn't really plan much in advance, just goes places and does whatever he feels like when he gets there. He does enjoy photography though, and I don't think I even need to ask if it's a good spot for photos

One of the key pieces of advice to people going to New York City is to not act like a tourist and not gawk at the skyscrapers (opening yourself up to theft and just annoying the locals) and also not to take pictures with the people in character suits unless you feel like forking over $20, which is not worth it.

Also, the traffic can be relentless, both on the sidewalks and off. Also, general traveling advice: donât keep more than youâre willing to lose in any single pocket. I tend to wear pants with something that will hold the pockets closed, such as zippers or velcro. I even put money in my shoes and socks just to be fairly certain my money stays with me. Pickpockets abound in crowds like you find in big cities.
