    Update No. 18

Hello, loyal readers, and thank you for sticking around for two whole years of me not writing. I thank you for your patience, and I wish to express my gratitude towards all of you, new and old, who have been enjoying Consanguinity.

I thought it was high time I posted an update blog about how things are going, so here we are!

I've started the next chapter... twice, in fact. X'D

2018, and the Future of this Author · 10:17pm Jan 5th, 2018

Hello there, all of my lovely readers and friends. I know that I have been markedly absent in the past several months, with only one or two chapters since September to show that I am not, in fact, dead. As a matter of fact, I have been writing quite a lot... just not on anything that I can post, here or elsewhere. XD

I seriously considered simply NOT finishing Consanguinity, friends. I couldn't write a word on it for almost a month, and when I did sit down to try, I ended up just getting frustrated. I could write on other, less important things, so why wasn't I able to write on this?

Truth be told, it has a lot to do with where my writing is going these days. I'm writing more human stuff now, mostly with original characters, and I'm laying the groundwork for writing my first novel -- that is what took a lot of my attention this last year. The goal of this endeavor with fan fiction was to have a practice arena, somewhere that I could work within to make my writing better and better. Now I feel like I've improved to a level where I can begin executing my own ideas with skill that will allow me to actually tell the story that I want to tell, and that is leading me to work more and more on my own fiction, and less and less on pony fan fiction.

However, before I made any kind of decision, I decided to attempt writing on Consanguinity some more, to see if I still cared enough about the story to continue it -- and, lo and behold, I did. I've begun writing on it again, if slowly, so my final decision has been made: I will see Consanguinity through to the end, but any other pony works will be put on the back burner.

It's kind of sad. I've got so much to work with -- the Stars universe, this new Consanguinity universe, my RarTavia stories -- but it feels like things are... stifling? In the fandom now, I mean. There's no real way to go anywhere, unless someone super popular randomly likes your stuff/becomes friends with you. If you're just one little person (who can't seem to make friends, ironically) toiling away doing your own little thing, there's no hope for you to get anywhere -- and that's how I feel about my pony work.

I'm sorry, gentle-readers. I didn't mean to drone about my feelings, or about the fandom -- but I suppose I'd rather let you know how I'm feeling than to let you guess at it.

I'm not planning to stop completely, but just shift my attention to my other works. I'm seriously considering starting up a fanfiction.net account so that I can post some of the more risque Fire Emblem stuff that my wife and I have been working on together (as well as things from other fandoms, like Star Wars and Elder Scrolls), but the majority of my time is (if the stars align and 2018 is kind) is going to be spent on my original work. I hope. Also a Youtube channel. But that's neither here nor there, I suppose.

Anyway, now that I've rambled quite a bit, I'll run along and see if I can't coax another chapter out of my fingertips in the near future. Look forward to it, gentle-readers!

Sweet! An update! I've been hoping we'd see more from Skyla sometime soon, but if you find more pleasure in your other work, it's no surprise you'd be doing that.
Though I'm definitely pleased you've decided to finish the story to the end.

Well if you end up creating fanfiction account just give us the info so that we can go read it.

If you enjoy what you're writing keep doing, I don't get many views and my stories are hit or miss for many people but I keep going anyway because I enjoy it.
