    Asking for Help

Someone very close to me, as well as a co-author on *Survivor's Guilt*'s sister's cat is in bad shape. He needs eye surgery badly, and they need to raise money. If anyone out there can help, please do.

I'm not gonna spoil it, but if anyone that follows me is a fan of darker, more intense fantasy stories, check out the Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon Prime. Season 1 finished today, and season 2 is gonna be awesome.

Scootaloo's Wish Review · 4:55am Dec 25th, 2017

Video made by Me.

Well, I've been a bit slow on reviews lately, but I'm gonna do something here for Christmas. Also, this is my 100th blog post, so, yay!

In the Christmas spirit I've picked a short fanfic to review that's about two of my favorite ponies. If you don't know who they are, then you really haven't been reading my fics lately, I hope you enjoy it.

Well, now lets get started as we look into the fic Scootaloo's Wish by TheNewYorkBrony. It should be interesting, I mean you know how much I like Scootaloo, so lets get started.

---The Gift---

So, we start off on the last day of school before Christmas break (yes Christmas, not Hearth's Warming, its a human world fic so, yeah). The students head out of the school and of course this includes Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and Apple Bloom. Scootaloo seems to be very quiet at the moment and a bit sad about something as her friends are talking about their holiday plans.

Sweetie Belle gets Scootaloo's attention by asking her what Rainbow Dash was going to get her, which confuses the girl a little.

"Huh?" Scootaloo blinked, her attention being drawn back to the conversation as they continued their walk home.

"Do you think Rainbow got you anything? I mean she is kind of like a sister to you." Sweetie said with a shrug.

Scootaloo shrugged herself. "Uh yeah. Maybe. I don't know. I mean I'm sure she did but she hasn't said anything about it," She sighed. "Besides, Christmas isn't really my thing, y'know?"

Sweetie Belle and Applebloom nodded, understanding. "Well Ah'm sure she's got something cooking up for you." Applebloom assured her. "Christmas is the day after tomorrow."

Sweetie agrees that Rainbow is probably up to something and that Scoots should have faith in her big sis, though its not clear what at the moment as Scootaloo heads out. Sweetie comments that Scootaloo always seems sad this time of year and doesn't have any extended family, I'm sure some of you can see where this is going.

Apple Bloom adds that they're like her family but she'd want a real family. She also adds that she knows how she feels because she had lost her parents but she had at least gotten to know them. Sweetie suggests that they could get Pinkie Pie to throw a Christmas party for her at Sugarcube Corner.

Hmm, Pinkie throwing a party, what a novel concept, she's never done that before.

Anyway, Apple Bloom agrees that its a good idea and calls Sweetie Belle a genius before they rush off to talk to Pinkie.

We cut over to Scootaloo's home where she's unzipping her jacket and getting the snow off her clothes when she hears murmuring coming from the living room.

"So....that's it?" A raspy voice asked, excitedly. Scootaloo recognized this to be Rainbow Dash. But what was Rainbow doing at her foster home?

"Yep. That's it. Soon as the papers finalize she's all yours," Her foster mother said with a laugh. "I'm sure you'll treat her just fine."

So Scootaloo enters the room and of course its Rainbow Dash and her foster mother who are talking. She asks what's going on and what Rainbow's doing there. Of course they seem to be a bit uncomfortable and tell her that Rainbow is wanting to buy a car and had been filling out the papers for insurance and everything.

Scootaloo accepts that and heads upstairs and the two women let out a sigh of relief. Rainbow says that she'd like Scootaloo to not find out what she has planned, so of course she has something big planned. I wonder what that could possibly be, hmm... could be a lot of things...

"You? A mom? HA!" Applejack guffawed. "Whoo-wee! That'd be the day!" She said, slapping her knee and wiping a tear from her eye. Her laughs got louder as the prospect seemed even more ridiculous.

Oh, well, that didn't take long to find out.

So anyway yeah Rainbow Dash is here to talk to her friends about the possibility of her becoming a mom which is making Applejack laugh like we just read. Rainbow asks if she thinks she couldn't handle it and Rarity asks if she'd be able to take on such a big responsibility.

Fluttershy then points out that a lot of them have their own flaws that would make it hard for them to take on a child. Twilight agrees but objects to the implication that she's a workaholic, which is of course true, she is a workaholic as Applejack points out.

And then we get this:

"Though, and excuse my intrusive nature, but why exactly did you decide to ask us this question out of the blue?" Rarity pointed a perfectly manicured finger at the athlete in question.

Rainbow rubbed the back of her neck. "Well...You guys remember how I was talking about that gift for Scootaloo for months?"

The others nodded, somewhat vaguely remembering certain various instances.

"Well...The gift is..." Rainbow paused, not sure how to phrase her words. "I'm gonna adopt Scoots. I'm gonna be her mother. They're finalizing the papers tomorrow and by tomorrow night I'll have a kid."

Well, there's no real surprise there, especially if you know my tastes in fics. Still, its a good reveal, has some nice build up, now lets read how her friends reply.

Mouths around the room hung agape, the silence enforcing the fact that they were all speechless.

"That's...whoa." Twilight mumbled, her words not exactly coming back to her yet.

"That's....very mature of you Rainbow Dash! Oh I'm sure you'll be a fine mother for Scootaloo!" Rarity praised, clapping her hands excitedly.

"Damn, and here Ah thought ya done gone and got yourself knocked up by some fella," Applejack said running a hand through her dirty blonde hair. "Shoot, now Ah feel bad. Sorry fer laughin' in your face, sug." She sent her an apologetic look.

Rainbow shrugged. "It's aiight. Just don't tell Sweetie Belle and Applebloom. They might get too excited and spill the beans."

So, do you want to guess what happens next? Yep, Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom (yes, remember that, its two words) arrive at Sugarcube Corner while they're not watching the door. So yeah, the cat's out of the bag (I'm not going to say what Sweetie said in the fic I hate that joke).

Anyway, Apple Bloom asks if they could throw the Christmas party for Scootaloo at Sugarcube Corner. Pinkie, being Pinkie, gets all excited about the idea of throwing a party and it'll be a mix of Christmas and Adoption, so that's pretty nice. Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom agree to keep it a secret from Scootaloo and will help set things up despite Sweetie's protests.

We cut over to where Scootaloo is looking out the window at the fallen snow, its a pretty nice moment as she hears the sound of laughter out in the distance.

She hadn’t looked out into the night in a while, it was something that had somewhat comforted her when she was younger. A star in the sky twinkled brightly, making her blink.

Shaking her head, she returned her attention to the sky. The star seemed to shine brighter than before. “I’m crazy for even thinking this is a good idea, but...Santa, if you’re out there, really out there, I just, all I want for Christmas...I just want a real family. Or maybe just someone who will love me and care for me. That’s all I want.” She clasped her hands together and closed her eyes. “That’s my only wish.”

And with that Scootaloo falls asleep, its a pretty short scene, yeah.

So the next day Rainbow heads over to Fluttershy's place and something seems to be bothering her. The papers for Scootaloo's adoption have been approved at this point but Rainbow seems to be a bit nervous about the whole thing still. She's afraid that she's not going to do a good enough job as Scootaloo's mom and that she's going to mess up somehow.

I'd make some comments on this, but actually Fluttershy says pretty much what I was going to say.

Fluttershy went back into the kitchen as the kettle began to whistle. “Well, do you honestly believe that? I mean you’ve been taking her places, having sleepovers with her, and spending so much time with her you might as well be her mother.” She poured the steaming hot water into two cups and put a tea bag in hers and some hot cocoa mix in Dash’s. She then brought the two mugs over to the coffee table and set them down.

“Now I’m no therapist, but where is all this self doubt coming from? You were so excited yesterday and confident in yourself,” Fluttershy blew on her tea a little bit before taking a tentative sip. “Is there anything that might have caused this?”

Rainbow shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know. I just got to thinking, like, what if I can’t be a good role model for her? What if she can’t take me seriously as a mom and continues to see me as nothin’ but a sister?” She tugged at her hair in frustration. “The last thing I wanna do is drive us apart!”

Fluttershy scooted closer to Rainbow and gently coaxed her into putting her hands down. “You won’t, because I have faith in you. And the other girls might not show it, but they do too. And I’m sure if there’s anyone Scootaloo would want as a mother, it’s you. She looks up to you, Dash. She already sees you as a good role model. You can do no wrong in her eyes.”

“That’s the problem! I don’t want her to think I’m some perfect superhero or something and that I don’t have flaws!” Dash buried her face in her hands. “I’m scared. I’m scared that I’m not good enough.”

“If you truly thought that, would you have gone through this whole process?” Fluttershy asked with a quirked brow.

“Huh?” Dash mumbled.

“If you really truly believed someone like you didn’t have what it takes to be a mother to Scootaloo, would you have gone through the process of all of this? Something that takes months? There’s no backing out now and you know it. Rainbow you care about Scootaloo a lot. I can see it. We all can. You’ll be a great mother for her. I promise.” Fluttershy smiled at her warmly.

Rainbow thanks her and gives her a hug and the scene is over again, not much else to add right now.

So the next day is Christmas day and Scootaloo is blindfolded and being lead by her friends who are being mysterious. She is lead into Sugarcube corner and when the blindfold is removed she's greeted by all her friends yelling surprise. So yeah, she's got a really nice party here, parties are always nice.

Rainbow stepped forward. “We did this for you, Squirt. We didn’t want you to be alone on Christmas. Not anymore. And you have your friends to thank for that.” She nodded at Applebloom and Sweetie Belle who both grinned sheepishly.

“You guys? This was your idea?” She asked, her eyebrows raised.

“Yeah,” Sweetie replied excitedly.

“We wanted to let ya know how much we all care about ya. Especially Rainbow Dash.” Applebloom told her.

Scootaloo’s eyes widened. “R-Really?” She said, turning back to the older girl.

Rainbow Dash ruffled her hair. “Of course, Squirt. I’d do anything to make you happy.” She gave her a warm smile.

“Alright, Alright! Enough heart felt! Let’s get this party started!” Pinkie Pie shouted, turning on the music and pulling a huge bag presents seemingly out of nowhere. She pushed Scootaloo in a plush chair and put a king’s crown on her.

“This is your special day, so you get only the best gifts fit for a king!” The pink haired party planner snorted with laughter. She handed the bag of presents to Scootaloo and squealed with excitement as the child’s eyes lit up with tears.

“These...these are all for me?” She whispered, choking back tears.

“Yep! Go ahead! Open them!” Rainbow encouraged with a knowing smirk.

So yeah, Scootaloo gets a nice collection of presents like books and games, plus Wonderbolt posters. I wonder what the Wonderbolts are in the human world, are they like a sports team or like the Blue Angels or something? Just something to think about.

Anyway, she also gets a silver key, which will of course be important since you don't just randomly give someone a key. Then they start the music and, I guess dance and party or something.

Rainbow walks Scootaloo home and she had enjoyed the party. Rainbow tells her that she's a good kid and deserves to be happy and to be loved. Scootaloo is then confused when they arrive at Rainbow's house and they head inside after Rainbow says that she'll understand soon enough. Scootaloo unlocks the door the key she had been given belongs to, and, well, I'll let you read for yourself.

And then realization flooded on to Scootaloo’s face. The bedroom was painted a light blue, clouds drawn in certain areas to look like the afternoon sky. All along the walls were different books, books she knew didn’t belong to her. There were toys scattered everywhere, and Wonderbolt posters lining the walls. But what stood out most to her was her scooter, propped up against a brand new mahogany desk.

"Me and Applejack had moved everything just before the party." Rainbow told her with tears in her eyes. “Welcome home, Squirt.”

“W-When you were at my foster home the other day, you weren’t talking about a car, were you?” Scootaloo said, choking back tears. “You, you were talking about me, weren’t you?”

Rainbow nodded. “Yep. Congratulations, Scoots. You finally have what you’ve always wanted. A mother.”

“A family,” Scootaloo whispered, in awe. It happened. It finally happened. She had a mother. Someone to truly love her, and care for her, to greet her when she comes home from school and do things with on Mother’s day. A real mother. Becoming so overwhelmed, she started to cry.

Rainbow pulled her in a tight hug.

“This is the best gift anyone has ever given me.” Scootaloo sniffed. She gazed up at Rainbow bleary eyed. “Thank you. So much.” She tightened her grip on Rainbow as if she never wanted to let the older girl go.

“I love you,” A hesitant expression crossed Scootaloo’s face before it was filled with excitement. “....Mom.”

Dash’s eyes widened at the word, her heart racing. “I love you too, Squirt.” She finally murmured, after a moment, kissing the top of her beautiful daughter’s head.

Its a great moment to end the fic on, I rather enjoy this fic even if its short, almost feels like it could get a sequel of some sort.

---Final Thoughts---

Well, this is a good fic, there's not much else to say. Its a bit short and the plot is obviously one that's been done before, but I enjoy it and its not something you often see set in a human world.

Its a good fic that has a lot of sweet moments involving Scootaloo, and you know how much I like sweet moments involving Scootaloo. Its not a perfect fic sure, but as far as stories go, its really good. It was definitely the perfect fic to review for Christmas.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you, I hope you have a good one.

Scootaloo's Wish gets a score of 4/5.
