Rememberance Day 2017 · 5:03am Nov 11th, 2017
Often when we think of Remembrance Day or Veterans Day, we think of trenches filled with mud, blood and the bloated corpses of the dead. Or perhaps we think of might ships of war and planes so numerous they blot out the sun like many angry clouds. We think of tragedy, misunderstanding, and of evil tyrants and convenient allies. While both world wars are tragic and worthy of remembering, they are not the only conflicts of significance that deserve recognition.
This year, in light of relatively recent events and tensions, I speak of the Korean War; a war that technically has not ended since it began in the 1950s. It represents the height of the chaos left in the wake of the second world war; of communism verses capitalism and the two superpowers looming over the rest of the entire world. Although lacking the theatrics or the rallying cries of the previous world wars, Korea still resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children caught in the crossfire. Families torn asunder as they are trapped on one side or the other of the front when the Cease Fire was signed. This conflict has shaped foreign policy and international politics even to this day.
I would write of other conflicts, but this year I do not have the time or energy to give them much justice. Not even this one. I just wanted to put SOMETHING up.
(On story news; I have decided not to bother planning out how to get past that block I wore about in the last update. Whatever I put down first will be what I go with and I will just have to deal with it.)
