The Terminator Review · 6:05pm Nov 9th, 2017
He's a machine from the future. And he's ready to exterminate, annihilate... and terminate. Unstoppable. Indestructible. And one mission in mind. Nothing can stand in his way.
Prepare yourself for Arnold Schwarzenegger as... The Terminator.
The Terminator centers around a machine under human skin, posing as Arnold Schwarzenegger who has been sent from the future to kill a woman by the name of Sarah Connor. The only person arriving to help her is a man from the future, Kyle Reese. He's sent to protect her and warn her of a robotic holocaust that exists in the future, to protect the fate of her unborn son who will no doubt rise up and lead a rebellion against the artificial intelligence simply known... as Skynet.
This is another 80s classic that is pure awesomeness, and everything in this movie was done right. And I mean everything. The set design, the special effects, the story, the acting, everything was done perfectly.
Our first point goes to the actors who put great effort and realism into the roles they put in. Michael Biehn does an outstanding performance of Kyle Reese, Linda Hamilton does a great job with performing Sarah Connor, but the biggest point goes to Arnold himself, as the Terminator. My god, I know we all joke about Arnold's hammy acting, but this time, his acting actually works wonderfully as this character, putting a great amount of the robotic nature and the sadistic killer that the Terminator is. He is a definition of a badass in this movie. He gets shot multiple times, and he still doesn't get taken down. He's set on fire, still not down. Every ounce of the human flesh is off his body, and yet, HE'S STILL NOT DOWN! Give this guy points, he is a badass!
More points go to our story. While a sci-fi movie, it is actually kind of believable. I actually can believe that one day we might put all our power into the machines a bit too much and then when they day comes... we all will pay. And the flashbacks that we get to the future are not only dark, but they are extremely depressing to watch, and that tone works wonderfully. I feel really sad for all of these poor people that go through this, and I think it shows how bad things can be when war spirals out, or even if we let the machines take over. And I think that's one of the things that people remember this movie a lot for. How many lines can you guys name from the movie? Probably a lot, huh?
The special effects and the visuals are added on plus. Not only does the makeup for the Terminator look really amazing as we see the robotic form underneath that fleshy skin, but we also get some very lifelike and practical effects thrown in as well which look awesome, and even touches of stop motion in there. Compared to the effects from modern day films, these machines are more believable and more lifelike than CGI will ever be. And accounting for the timeline the movie takes place in, including both past and future included, they all look really amazing.
This movie did everything perfectly, and it shows. The drama, the action, the music, the acting, the direction, everything was just done right. There is no way to make this better, everything was done perfectly. And I think its safe to say, this classic will continue to live on forever. Terminator, you are the man.
I give this movie, a 10 out of 10! Its a masterpiece, and its worth the money. Enjoy!
