Throwback Thursday: Coffee Break · 12:10am Oct 21st, 2017
Shut up, I know it's Friday. I forgot... But, TBT is more a state of mind than anything, and I still want to promote some stories of mine that more recent followers may not have read. So, without further ado, today I'm going to talk about my first attempt at comedy, a little story by the name of Coffee Break.
Coffee Break
Chapters: 1
Length: ~3,600
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, EqG
Characters: Principal Celestia, Vice Principal Luna
Date of completion: 1/8/15
Time took to finish: ~9 days
Coffee Break was a story in which Principal Celestia discovers that there is no coffee left in Canterlot City, and she kinda needs her coffee because she is not a morning person. So she goes to great lengths in an attempt to get herself a cup of the good stuff, eventually being dragged away from her adventure when Luna points out that she has a job to do. Basically, we follow a very grumpy principal taking out her wholly justified rage on a few students until she gets what she needs.
That's about all there is to say about Coffee Break. It was a kind of weird story that wasn't necessarily trying to be funny, but it wasn't trying not to be funny. It had problems, nearing the middle, but I think it had a fairly solid start and end. The trouble of this fic actually has nothing to do with Coffee Break, but later entries in the so-called Coffee Trilogy. See, Canterlot City has no coffee, but I never specified why. That, coupled with a Sonata thread in the story that comes out of nowhere and goes about as far, meant that I had to explain why. So, later on, I had to make two more stories around a one-shot that wasn't built to be expanded upon, thus the creation of Sweet Sixteen (Thousand) and Pinkie and the Bear-Monkey, but those are TBTs for another day.
Does it hold up? Hm... I think so. It's not great and it's lacking a fair bit of polish, but it's definitely readable. I say check it out.
