I did the same thing. My debut was a story that I wrote off the top of my head... And it also, incidentally, is my best rated one. My reasoning, however, is that I wanted to gain a few followers before I released my project of several months. Because nothing hurts more than having nobody care about something you've worked hard on. Negative criticisim I can deal with. A complete lack of feedback? That would just be crushing.
