MLP:FIM the Movie Opinion · 1:38am Oct 7th, 2017
To sum it up short and sweet: Meh.
Better than I had been lead to believe by some of what I had heard and worse than I hoped for. Kudos on Twilight finally having a blowup moment that she has been owed since the season finale of season two even if it was rather abbreviated and dealt with faster than it should have been. Also kudos on finally showing us what a hippogriff looks like in this setting.
Downsides, music was probably the weakest it has ever been in an MLP:FIM production (Twilight only barely sings in one song for instance and at least half the songs aren't even any characters singing), Songbird needed subtitles for me to make out a thing she was singing and about half of what she said because I couldn't hear it very well in the theater (which may be the fault of my dinky local cinema honestly), and I think a bit of too much emphasis was placed on the little of the series title. The characters were half the size they appear to be in the actual show or at least that was how it appeared to me.
Oh ho, forgot something. Bonus points to the movie for Derpy being the hero of the whole story. Without her the movie would have not made it past twenty minutes.

Derpy didn't do shit. Rainbow Dash was the one who saved Twilight's stupid flank. It's been confirmed now that it was her. The fact that you don't like her just makes it all the more satisfying that I get to rub it in your face.

Hm? Don't recall saying RD didn't actually save her. Derpy did however distract the enemy by taking the blow allowing them to get away. Thus she did indeed save the day. I'm genuinely impressed at how many people ignore that to point out RD doing her job, not as an element or a friend but as actual Wonderbolt now, of defending royalty. Something that hurts RD's performance throughout the movie in the fact that she continues to act like a little twit rather than actually taking orders from her superior.
