The Superhero Squad Show Impressions · 9:32pm Sep 5th, 2017
After my blog yesterday, and reminding myself of what Teen Titans Go could've been, I remembered another show about iconic superheroes that was a parody. Except it was decent from the start.
The Superhero Squad show. So, I went back to watch it on Hulu to see if it's just my nostalgia talking. This show was what introduced me to the greater Marvel universe and the characters beyond the obvious when it came out. I was young and I loved seeing these exaggerated characters fighting evil together as a heroic team. I was introduced to Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, the Squadron Supreme and so many other heroes with this show. This was the show that convinced me to read comicbooks, so it kind of holds a special spot for me.
Besides the off animation, the show actually holds up well in my opinion. The main characters are comedic exaggerations of what we know them for, but they're likable. There a lot of jokes and references to the comics and little fan nods such as Wolverine keeping a checklist of what other superheroes he's teamed up with up to and including the Easter Bunny just to drive the point home.
This is also one of my favorite scenes cause he's kidfriendly and exaggerated but you can get the basic message of the Punisher still:
There's an epic storyline handled episodically that leads to the Squad meeting various heroes and facing off against many villains whether they be Doctor Doom and his Lethal Legion, Thanos, Magneto, Dormammu or even Egghead. Both involving the Infinity Sword and Infinity Gauntlet.
This is what Teen Titans Go should've been from the start: a parody that writes jokes based on the characters' known quirks and fun nods to the comics/cartoon lore, having fun with the world they're in, while fighting villains. It can be a gag series, but the gags should revolve around the DC Universe and what the characters do instead of changing how the team acts just to fit the random plot of the week.
Like instead of having Beast Boy and Cyborg singing about Waffles or the Potty Dance, have an episode where the team chases Red X through bizarre locations across the DC world like Atlantis and have the team come up with ridiculous theories about his identity based on the clues they have.
Just throwing my two cents out there. TTG can be better, and I think it could take some notes from SHS.
This show was not bad. I didn't watch much of it but when I did watch it I liked what I saw.
4660157 I watched every episode. There were a few bad ones, but it was still mostly good.
4660710 I just never had the time to watch them. It was entertaining when I watched it.
