Meeting Expectations · 9:56am Oct 11th, 2012

So about a week ago, it was suggested that I try submitting Alpha Mare to EQD.

Some of you, I wager, just leaned back from the screen with an arched brow, as I did at the time.

Basically, I knew it wouldn't get accepted, and this was because of: my writing style, in particular the way I use ellipses as extended pauses; the fact that it was by-design a parody trope-fest that was intentionally loaded down with blatant, repetitive jokes; and finally, because to enable the aforementioned trope-fest it departs from 'in character' behavior for Dash and Rarity.

So I got my response back today. Very businesslike, very "we appreciate your application but don't see us working with you at the current time". And they gave me their reasons for rejecting the story:
- My writing style, specifically ellipses, which were used so much that it was described as, and I quote, "egregious". Also they wanted spaces following them.
- The blatant, repetitive nature of the jokes (which were stated to be so repetitious that they irked the reader less than halfway through).
- Rainbow Dash not being in character. Oddly, though, even after I made her a wilting wallflower who collapsed into a quivering heap, apparently Rarity was considered in-character?

But all of these things I expected. For that matter, in the third one, I expected them to take issue with both characters, not just one. What I did not expect though, was this:

The general consensus is that the scene of Rarity and Dash engaging in their act needs to be "dialed back".

I also saw one comment here on Fimfic along those lines, but...well, really?

There's plenty of implication, yes, but the only things that explicitly happen are a sloppy makeout and some hooves lingering on thighs. This needs to be dialed back?

No, really, serious question, however many blog readers are out there. I want opinion on this, because to my judgement that scene was pretty tame. Am I mistaken?
