My thoughts on Triple Threat

I liked it. I really liked it.

A thought finally came to mind when Spike started acting nervous, which I guess I should've thought when I saw the synopsis a while ago, but I'm sure it was in the back of my head. "So this is it huh? MLP's finally doing the 'secretly juggling two dates' bit." They weren't dates. Semantics.

Ember and Thorax were a god damn treat, just an absolute joy to watch. They were definitely the entertainment highlight of the episode for me. Ember eating portions of the castle and then attempting to do the same with Derpy and her muffin and actually proclaiming it a weird thing that ponies do, and her awesomeness in general (SHE SHOT A GOD DAMN EXPLOSIVE FIRE BLAST LIKE TOOTHLESS). Thorax being weirded out by Twilight (if Chair Horse doesn't become a thing, I will be sorely disappointed in this fandom), him droning on (get it? bug joke) about his troubles (which is also foreshadowing for the next episode he's appearing in!!!!), changing into a bear to protect Spike!, his adorableness in general. I really liked the Moose King in this..................(Unless those antlers go away, I'm gonna think Moose King when I see him. Or Mooseling/Moose changeling). And their interactions with each other were just great.

I did find Ember's casual racism funny, though the "you people look alike" trope has been making me role my eyes a lot more, especially in this case. Yeah, it's kind of understandable since she didn't really spend a lot of time with Twilight and hasn't seen Starlight before, and points for pointing out specific similarities, but after having seen them both already those things seemed a tad bit paper thin. Just a nitpick really.

The Spike highlight of the episode for me...............

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! THE MAP CALLED SPIKE! THE MAP CALLED SPIKE! THE MAP CALLED SPIKE! I was sitting down, watching the episode on my iPad, and when that happened, I bolted up exclaiming "NO FUCKING WAY!!!!", holding my pad in one hand and using the other to fist pump rapidly as I walked about my living room. Spike: The map's calling me? Me: Fuck yeah it is, man! How it happens is a little wonky, but it's not a big deal to me.

This was definitely one of the better Spike episodes. Though not really an episode were Spike was at his best (there is a difference) overall. I do have some thoughts on that though. It may not be Spike at his best, but I find it understandable. Yes, he should probably know better by now about two different individuals getting along since he's seen it, but just because he's seen it can work isn't a guarantee that it always will. The events of Dungeons and Discord were probably what brought the idea in his head. He and Big Mac are friends with Discord now, but at the start, interaction was pretty rocky. And in this, his friends were two leaders, one of which leads an entire race of creatures who are very competitive and have not adapted to friendship all too well yet. Bad shit can happen, especially in this world (cough cough, Crystal war/changeling takeover/lunar takeover, cough). A war may not be the most likely thing, but there is a chance.

I'd give this a 7 1/2 out of 10. Like third or fourth for best Spike ep.
