The MLP Movie · 4:11am Oct 6th, 2017
So I saw the movie.
It was fine.
It was a-ight.
Not really something I feel like watching again.
Some of the Main 6 were just kind of there. Same goes with Spike, though he had a really badass moment at one point.
Michael Peña's character wasn't annoying to me, maybe had one line or two I found funny, but overall he felt kind of pointless, as comedic relief at least.
The Storm King was a freaking dork and I loved it. Wish there had been more of him.
Tempest was fucking awesome, she was the highlight of the whole movie for me. Her song was pretty good. And the origin of her scar and broken horn!
Capper was pretty cool. Real smooth.
Uzo Aduba has a very fitting voice for a queen. No matter her character, you never anger Uzo Aduba.
Princess Skytar comes off to me as Pearl from Steven Universe if she were a peppy teenager. She was kind of delightful.
The pirates were....neat, I guess. I get that they're parrot people because pirates have parrots and all that, but it didn't feel necessary to make them parrot people. They could've been griffons who were half parrot, since we've seen griffons aren't restricted to being only half lion and eagle in MLP, they can be other cat/bird combos. Zoe Saldana's voice acting was pretty good.
Some nitpicks here and there, like "you have wings that you can use in this situation!" A really tired trope that leads to the heroes seperating (you know what it is) that feels kind of forced with everything that's happened in the show, like that might happen in seasons 1-3, maybe 4, but not now.
The animation on the ponies is still kind of eh. Not bad but kind of off sometimes. Not to say it looked bad, it was just different. With most other things it was pretty good, like movie original characters, like Tempest.
Some spoiler things: Tempest's real name is a bit much. 4 whole words and the first two feel like enough since they fit with what she does at the end, but even with just those two it doesn't fit her to me, with what we were shown. I'm just gonna keep calling her Tempest.
The Storm King's death was an awesome "Holy Shit!" moment. Like Clayton's death in Tarzan, among other deaths in Disney movies.
Kind of spoilerish:If you guessed from the trailers and tv spots that the other princesses would barely be in it.....you guessed correctly.
I give it like a 6/10.
