***SPOILER ALERT*** - Where we go from here · 3:23pm Aug 19th, 2017
So, when writing ALS, I generally don't have a "plot" built. I let the story go where it will from week to week.
I know some of the important details that I want to get to, but the road may take a roundabout path to get there. With ALS, I wanted to build a relationship between two people who are both broken in different ways.
With Luna, I always thought that she was never really as fleshed out as she could have been as a character. With the show, I know that is because she is not really a huge main factor, and I always thought that was a bit of a disappointment. But that also lets people run their own theory when writing, without having to play into the constraints of the existing cannon. I imagined Luna as being a pretty hard-shelled person, but wanted to know what was inside of it. Deep down, I was willing to bet that there was some really heavy trauma that caused her to become who she was - and I wanted to explore that. Find the sharp edges and examine them in the context of a relationship.
With that theory in mind, I have opted to write Luna as someone who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder issues, and self-harm ideations. Someone who has seen the edge of the blackness, and reached down to touch it. I thought that was a really great way to develop her as a character.
With Sunset, I want to look at things from a different role - one more as someone who has gone through the fires of hell, and come out the other side as a more solid person. We have seen Sunset at her worst, and now she must pay her penance. What better way than by connecting to someone who has yet to really address their own inner demons?
Moving forward, there will be a LOT of discussion about trauma, mental illness, and other things attached to it.
Enjoy the ride!
