Why my chapters take so long to develop · 1:21am Feb 5th, 2012
Reason One: I'm an engineer.
I want Flight Training to be as technically accurate as it possibly can be, while still being entertaining. This is becoming an issue. I want to put the reader in Scootaloo's position of downright confusion and panic as much as I can, without confusing the reader to the point of no longer caring. Again, it's a tough balancing act, and I'm afraid I may be erring towards the technical.
Reason Two: I'm frikkin OCD.
Allow me to explain. For Flight Training, I have about seven pages of story done, i'm about halfway through chapter 2. I have a notes document that is currently fourteen pages long, covering everything from character development to aviation physiology (as it relates to pegasi). my physics section alone is three pages. I have almost as many theories about how ponies fly and what could affect them in flight as I do ideas for chapters and plotlines.
To give you an idea, here is a section of my physics notes on pegasi flight. Note, the footnotes are colorful for my own benefit. Yes, I write notes to myself in colorful language.
Does pony wing have alphacrit?
Yes, you idiot. (its around 13-17 degrees, just like any other wing)
does pony wing stall?
Not unless they try (like a helicopter, too high an angle on the wings at too slow a speed and the wing will stall)
How does the wing stall?
The wings will stall from the root to the tip, with boundary layer separation starting at the tertiary feathers, and moving to the secondary, then primary. The pony would feel this separation (it would proabably hurt like a bitch, imagine someone pulling individual hairs on your arms and fingers) and lower their AOA before it progressed to the primaries.
Do ponies need to practice stalls
No, it puts too much strain on the secondary feathers (boundary layer separation could produce enough of a buffet to pull them out), and, as previously stated, it fucking HURTS!!
Probably do them once in training just to make sure they know what to expect.
See what I mean? that's a small section, and I added to it as I was re-reading the blog for errors! I need help!
Reason Three: Time.
I'm spending so much time on details, that the story is falling behind.
I should have Chapter 2 done this evening, and you'll see it when it's up!
