Musical Musings: CKY · 6:36pm Jun 25th, 2017
I love punk music in general principle. There's a lot that can get injected into the genre and its sub-genres, and I adore that punk can be both really soulful and aggressive at the same time.
Then we got CKY. And damn it, this band is really good. Now I'll openly admit to all my personal bias because I'm likely going to fawn like a groveling fangirl at a lot of the bands and musicians in this segment of the blog, but with that said, I enjoy talking about things I enjoy. CKY is a band I do very much enjoy. Now, I was pretty well hooked from the first time I heard 'Flesh Into Gear' at the end of the first Jackass movie. Those were good times and Steve-O is still one of my personal idols. Probably because he's got a lot of cool things to say and he's basically a living legend.
For me, CKY is one of those bands that really encapsulated the whole punk/skater scene and especially how it was in the early 2000s. Not that they're the only great band from the time. I could go on for quite a bit about other classic punk bands like Pennywise, Suicidal Tendencies, and maybe Misfits, but those are bands for other blog posts. Seriously though, Pennywise is dope.
When regarding CKY though there's a decent amount of history to consider. First off that Bam Margera's brother is the drummer and that a lot of CKY tracks got used throughout the Jackass movies. That's pretty cool. Band went on hiatus for a few years too, which sucked. But they're back now! In fact, they released a new music video not more than a month or two ago. I think CKY has a bit of a different sound from back in the day, but honestly I still dig it. Never understood why someone could swear off a band because of a change in sound. It's not like the older albums are going anywhere.
Anyway, CKY is a pretty top notch punk band in my opinion and I felt it would be sweet to share the love in case anyone just might be a nut for punk too. Songs and albums and whatnot below, so have fun!
Enjoy the tunes and stay rad.
