"The Soul of a Pony" has been Featured! Truly, 'tis a glorious day. To celebrate, I think I'll let you all know (vaguely) my plans for the next three chapters. Chapter 6 ("The Caretaker") will be Fluttershy's chapter. Chapter 7 ("The Student") and Chapter 8 ("Reality") will be Twilight's (yes, technically they're all Twilight's chapters, but you know what I mean).
Many of you have commented on SoaP with soulgaze requests. I addressed a few of them in a comment of my own, but I felt it would be best to respond to them in more detail here. Spike was one of the more popular choices, along with Celestia and Luna. I also saw a few for Discord, and one (not entirely serious, if I remember) for Trixie. Unfortunately, I have no plans for Twilight to soulgaze them, for various reasons.
Let's start with the big ones: Luna, Celestia, and Discord. All three are essentially gods to the residents of Equestria, and they're all (as far as we know) immortal. Long lives => long memories, and minds that are beyond anything understandable by mortals. For reasons I've discussed elsewhere, I will never use Discord in any fanfiction I write, but there are other reasons that trying to soulgaze him would be a terrible idea. Firstly, you'd go insane. Instantly, irrevocably insane, your mind broken just from trying to comprehend the evil and chaos that Discord represents. Secondly, in order for him to be in a position to be 'gazed, he'd have to be freed, and that would be a Very Bad Thing. I'm a bit torn on Luna and Celestia. I'm not sure if they'd be similarly mind-shattering, or merely convoluted and incomprehensible. Either way, Twilight wouldn't dare to try a soulgaze on either of them.
Why won't Twilight soulgaze Spike? The question-dodging answer is that she's never seemed to include him in much else she does with her friends (ouch). Really though, there could be any of a number of different reasons. Maybe, because Twilight tailored the spell specifically to work on her (pony) friends, it wouldn't do anything to Spike (or Discord). Since she's now resolved to ask permission before traipsing around in another's mind, maybe Spike won't let her. Perhaps she just never considered it.
Trixie? Ahahahahaha—No.
At this point, I have no idea how long Chapter 6 will take. I have a pretty good idea of where I want to go, and I actually already have Fluttershy's soulgaze written out (albeit in the form of a poem; it's a long story). If I'm honest, I've been looking forward to this chapter from the beginning. I love Fluttershy to pieces, and it was thinking about what her soulgaze would look like that inspired me to write SoaP in the first place. So yeah, I'm thinking it's going to be a good one.

:P I would think Discord, Celly and Lulu would all qualify as 'Souls Pony was not meant to Know'... :P Trixie would still be fun, though.
