[Edit] On My Way to Washington · 1:59am May 18th, 2017
Ah, I totally neglected to mention this until now, didn't I? How to start...
My little sister is making me spend more of my money.
She's a smart girl and all, and I'm sure she'll find a way to pay all of us back (how much have our parents sunk into her education over the years? I figure five digits at least, and who knows what value those are?), but her silly little life events and professional accomplishments are costing me my entire savings.
And all because she has earned her doctorate degree, too. Hummuphuh!
Lemme tell you what's goin' down...
I'm washing up the last of my clothes and putting my good suit through a wrinkle-release cycle so I can pack my bags. I've got an afternoon flight tomorrow that'll take me from one coast to the other (Baltimore to Seattle), and I'll have a rental car waiting for me so I can drive south to another state. There are also hotels involved, and I expect to be spending at least fourteen hours traveling during the course of the day, which will be tough to measure since I'm visiting a time zone that's three hours earlier than mine!
And all for what? So I can visit my sister, who's earning her doctorate?
Celebrate my accomplishment!
Pay me.
Ahh, okay okay, that's enough joking around.
I really am packing for a trip to Oregon Washington. It's a trip that will last through the weekend, and while I now have Discord on my phone, I doubt I'll be much help to anyone while stuck on a plane, in a car, and inside a hotel room that may or may not offer a measure of security. The whole trip is emptying my savings account, which I kind of need to move again in a few months, but it's important to me that I am there to celebrate this milestone.
This particular trip will also mark a series of 'firsts' for me. It'll be the first time I'm on a plane for more than four hours. The first time I get to visit Seattle, even if it is just a stop. The first time I drive through a national forest. And since my last trip to Oregon brought back some nasties, it'll be the first time I make sure to check my luggage for bed bugs. (My last trip to the state came with a nasty surprise.)
I'll see you folks when I'm there. Tomorrow, we ride!
Hopin' for the best...
