If you were someone in Fire Emblem... · 8:31pm Mar 26th, 2017

...who would you be? Not any of these plebs above, but I'm talking about who you specifically would be. This is another "OC maker" thing from me, but I thought it would be interesting to know what your role in a Fire Emblem game would be. Below is a sheet of how you can present your info to me, though you can do whatever you want really.

Using myself for an example:

Name: Calum
Class: Mage (Tomes) --> Sage (Tomes, Staves)
Appearance:
Fair complexion, long brown hair in a ponytail with a feather just above the ear, blue eyes, purple cape with a hood, long cyan scarf, dull red shirt with kingdom insignia on the front, grey pants, brown boots, black gloves, black belt.
Personality:
Though he is lazy, easily aggravated and even dimwitted at times, his kindness to those he likes is a powerful as his skills with magic. Above all others he truly cares for his half-sister, Claire, as they are the only family they have left. He has a strong dislike for the main antagonist and those who follow him and will gladly watch them burn if given the chance.
Backstory:
Calum was born in a now debunked village on Oceanus Island and lived with his aunt after his father, a mercenary, died in battle and his mother went into a state of depression. When his mother found new love in a strange new man, she bore Claire and Calum immediately felt as if he was obligated to protect her at all costs. When Calum discovered that the man only married his mother to take whatever money she had and leave the three when he had enough, he quite stupidly took his little sister and ran away not long after she turned two. Once Claire was old enough to take care of herself, Calum trained under a skilled sage to hone his powers until he was eventually powerful enough to join the high mage council at only 19. With his newfound power he went back to his village with Claire, now a self-taught archer, to put an end to his childhood nightmare only for them to discover years had flown by and the man was gone. With nothing else to do in his life, Calum began getting very lazy but still practiced his magic to make sure he wasn't falling behind in the council.
Quotes:
Confession: I... I love you, I suppose. But just so we're clear, you're the one making dinner every night.
Enter Battle: Cute toy. Is that your weapon?
Critical: Now you've gone and made me mad!
Enemy Defeat: Can someone else please clean up the blood?
Death: Forgive me... sister...
Extra Details:
- Youngest member of the high mage council at only 19
- Very skilled with magic despite his laziness
- Dislikes all forms of vegetables
- Has a fondness for fire-based magic
- Uses fire magic to burn vegetables
- Has tried holding standard weapons but lacks proper composure to use them
- Wants to stop being lazy but just can't bring himself to do it

Name: Will
Class: Dark Mage
Appearance:
fair complexion, short red hair messed up so you can't see his eyes, a standard dark mage robe, with a black color scheme and purple highlights. He wears black boots and keeps a collar around his neck.
Personality:
Despite his nature as a dark mage, he's a very cheery individual. He has an interest in poetry and artwork, and often likes talking about nature. People who see him can often be surprised as this drab looking individual starts smiling and spewing about how lovely he thinks the day is. He's very apologetic, and will even apologize to his opponents as he damages them. "Oopps! that was supposed to kill you, sorry for the maiming!"
Backstory:
He grew up in a magical academy, his mother never telling him who his father was, preferring to raise him herself. As a child born to a professor, he was given several distinct advantages growing up...ones which made his peers harbor resentment towards him, as he seemed to just get whatever he needed to proceed. Still, he never let that bother him, as his good fortune allowed him to grow up with a very sunny demeanor. Still, when his magical school aligned with the antagonists, and he saw they were intending to conquer other lands, he decided that getting the heck outta dodge might be a good idea. He bumped into the protagonists on the road, and decided to join them, hoping to stop his 'friends' from doing any harm.
Extra Details:
-Considers people friends, even if they think him a nusiance
-he likes singing...even though he sucks at it
-He thinks everyone can be saved, regardless of nature or alignment.
-he uses dark magic, which makes it alarming when your encased in shadows and seeing him smile at you.
-He will eat anything, even if it's made by someone suspicious, as he loves food from around the world.

This was pretty fun!

(is this good if so it was pretty fun i haven't played enough fire emblem for the starting gear if you can give me a few examples and what does res mean i'm a noob)

4472838
Sounds like he's a goody-two-shoes rich boy with fantastic and powerful magic that is better than everyone else, but I like him. Actually I think he could be a good character given time! This was good, thanks!

4472855
Despite the fact knights in Fire Emblem actually only use lances, this was pretty good. I think you meant to say cavalier since they can use lances and swords, but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

4472997
That's kinda the idea I had with him. Sort of born into his position, deep down he's pretty insecure about what he himself has ACTUALLY done in life. Which I think would reflect in his supports, and he would grow as the plot progressed. Given her eventually have to face his family and school, as they alligned themselves with the "big bad"

But thank you very much!

4472999 yea i played fates and i meant the same class as marth

Name:Marvin

Class: Dark Flier/Dark Falcon (Tomes/Lances)

Appearence: Average height, short blonde hair, glasses, wears (very) light armor under his standard mage coat with hood (rarely actually uses the hood)
His pegasus is the standard black (though he sometimes dyes some of the feathers to make it look cooler)

Personality: Smart and kind, he may look like the silent type, but internally stresses out about nearly everything (sometimes to neurotic levels), which is why he tends to get overlooked, he knows he has potential for more, but often too lazy and content with the necessities, but if he sets his eyes on something, he does everything to achieve it

Backstory: Pretty average life. Became a mage out of interest for magic, as well as joined the army to fight for what he thinks is right and help those in need, but after a near near-death-experience he realized magic alone can't always help him and wanted to train something that covers as much as possible. It quickly turned out he sucks as Malig Knight and while researching ways to leave the army without being branded a traitor he found out about the rarely used Dark Flier (he liked lances more anyways)

Quotes:
-Confession: "Heh... Spechless, though I was so prepared... So... Uhh... I... Just... I love you... very much... really!"
-Enter Battle: "Get ready for me!"
-Critical: "Let's get serious for once!"
-Enemy Defeat: "Just as planned... well, mostly."
-Death: "That caught me... off-guard..."

Extra Details:
–His pegasus is called Horus
–Always one of the best prepared
–Says about himself he doesn't need much to live
–His rather special class choice might be compensation for often being overlooked
–Likes dragons, but wyvern don't seem to like him
–Likes to quote his favourite series

Starting Gear:
-Elthunder
-Iron lance
-VulneraryX3
-Master Seal
-Draco Shield

Personal Skill:
Preparation: +1 in all (except HP) for the turn if he didn't fight the previous turn (enemy phase included)

LevelUp-Chance:

Lance-C Tome-B

As an OC, can I make my own class since I really don't know enough about Fire Emblem?

4473060
Interesting backstory, actually! I don't use dark fliers all that often, but if I had the choice I'd probably choose this guy to join my team.

4473433
Hmm... I'm in school now, but if I get the chance I'll give you a list of classes to choose from. I want to keep it as canonical as possible, ya dig?

Keep tight!

4473640 I'm cool with that.

4473677

Myrmidon: Uses swords, has high critical hit rate but low defenses.
Pegasus Knight: Uses lances, can move anywhere but is weak to bows.
Wyvern Knight: Uses axes, can move anywhere, weak to bows but you get a badass dragon.
Priest: Uses staves, can heal others but not much else.
Mage: Uses tomes, can strike from distance or close range but has low defense.
Knight: Uses lances, has high defense but that's literally about it.
Warrior: Uses axes, very powerful with high HP but low speed.
Mercenary: Uses swords, overall low stats but can promote to amazing classes.
Dark Mage: Uses dark tomes, same pros and cons of mage only with dark magic.

4473812 Alright, well, I'll try and think up a backstory when I get home, but I'm pretty sure out of all those, it's either a Myrmidon or a Mercenary. And with my personality, I'd probably be a sellsword.

4473814
That's usually what myrmidons and mercenaries in the Fire Emblem universe do anyway. Excellent choice! I look forward to your character.

4473824 So a myrmidon is just a fancy mercenary? Looks like I've got research to do. That is, if I don't get distracted by Destiny.:twilightblush:

4473829 It's a bit of a Rule of Thumb, but Myrmidons tend to be mercs because, well, Fire Emblem settings tend to be perfect for swordsmen in general to make a living or survive, whether or not they actually are mercs. Selling their skill is usually good because there's combat here and there, but often said Myrmidons become Swordmasters due to a desire to perfect their martial skill as is the case with Guy, Karel, and Steffan rather than just serve for coin. And then there's Lucia, who happens to be a Swordmaster in service to Crimea.

Mercenaries tend to be pretty self-explanatory, but they're generally based around people who are of great all-around martial skill, and/or company leaders. Heroes can vary between excellent and experienced leaders, or just warriors of exceptional skill; Take Harken for instance, who is not a traditional merc but is held in high regard as a Knight of Pherae.

Basically, pick a Class that best represents your character's backstory, motivations, and combat approach in general. After all, Gatrie is of the Knight/General Class, but he's a mercenary/bodyguard through and through.

(Going off of the Sea of Souls Post setting you made)
Name: Mort Greenweaver
Class: Dread Fighter (Sword, Tome, Knives) -> Demon Fighter* (Sword, Tome, Dark Tome, Knives)
*Demon Fighter isn't real, but it makes some sense
Alt Class (Marriage): Myrmidon, Tactician
Appearance:
Mort has fair skin that is clearly tanned. His eyes are green and his hair, while bushy, is held back from a myrmidon's headplate as if it were a headband. While Mort wears the normal Dread Fighter's outfit, he's modified a few things. The wold mask pauldron is replaced with a dark grey pauldron that has a small cape attached (think assassin's creed) the armor is also more tight-fitting in order to let him move easily in any terrain. He never wears the helmet.
Personality:
Mort is very jovial and can often be seen with a smile; with a quick tongue and a quicker mind. Many people he's worked under agree he's stoic when push comes to shove so the crew can concentrate while he takes care of what's needed, whether it be fighting or fixing. While he values friendship, he has yet to find someone he considers worthy after his mentor.
Backstory:
Born in the town of Mistral, he grew up relatively well off. His parents were retired veterans, his father a Warrior and his mother a Priestess, and Mort felt the need to prove himself as well. Taking a liking to Swords and Magic, he left his town to study under Grandmaster Shianne who was discharged after a new tactician proved them obsolete, working as a Myrmidon in order to get to the island she lived on. Three years later on her deathbed, Shianne gave him his current armor. Given a new clarity, Mort continues working as a sellsword, slowly honing his abilities until his next hire.
Quotes:
Confession: Heh, I never saw this coming! It seem's that you've disarmed me mi amor!
Enter Battle: You sure you want to do this? Alright.
Critical: Have a taste of true weaving!
Enemy Defeat: You should have ran.
Death: Whoops...Shianne's gonna kill me...
Extra Details:
-The one most likely to fall asleep in the sun.
-Although Mort smiles a lot, he never shows his teeth when he does.
-Prefers Wind Tombs and Rapiers, and has no skill with an axe, still working on the dark magic.
-He gained the title 'Dread Fighter' due to his ability to always counter no matter the opponent, causing dread to those who fight him.
-Mort will do anything for a TIMBER sandwich. Seriously. Anything. (Tomato, Iceberg lettuce, Mozzarella, Bacon, Extra balsamic vinaigrette, and uncooked Ramen)
Starting Gear:
Iron Sword
Wilderwind
Pebble
Vulnerary x2
Shianne's Rapier
Personal Skill:
Spellsword; When equipped with a tome at the start of your turn, you get a +2 Def bonus. If you are equipped with a sword, you get +2 Res bonus. (Note: this includes Katana/Scrolls)
Skills:
Counter; Inherited from father.
Countermagic; Inherited from mother.
Vantage; from his time a a Myrmidon.
Ignis; From an old dusty tomb given to him as a gift.
Clarity; From his time as a Dread Knight.

Thanks to Navieka, I've changed the character creation sheet for the better. You can look above to see the latest ways you can customize your character. And if you do decide to add onto your character, please edit your original comment. But if you do end up making a new comment, please delete the previous one. Thank you!

4474638
Very in-depth and interesting as well. Thanks for this! Also because of you I've made changes to the formula, so thanks for that.

4475157
Mucho gracias, amigo! Though usually characters only have one personal skill that no other units have ever. Also, those are pretty low level-up chances, but make your character however you want to, man; I won't judge.

4475162 oh my god i thought that meant thats how much he gets i edited again:facehoof:

I swear every time you do one of these I become the example, not that it's a bad thing, just interesting.

Well, having been partaking in some FE topics, I may as well give this a shot. Granted, my knowledge is mainly revolved from FE 6-10, so I'll be keeping skills and story relatively straightforward while keeping a particular reddit topic about growth averages in mind as well. Lets do this!

*A new ally joins*

Name: Market

Class: Dim Squire (Lances/Staves) --> Radiant Sentinel (Lances/Staves/Lumina) [I know they're not real classes, please bear with me]

Appearance:
A somewhat shorter than average yet fit male from the city-state of Insertium Inmediato in his early 30s with long ash blonde hair, brown eyes, and a modest tan. Frequently seen out on the fields with a very finely crafted but wholly undecorated steel variant of II armor normally worn by the Noble Soldiers of the city-state... Upon event-driven promotion, the refined and re-gifted armor set from the helmet down would bear beautifully crafted sigils based on the joined faction's banner, as well as other engravings and permanent drawings made by friends, comrades, children, and lover to represent them and his new passion.

Personality:
When first met, he comes off as a mildly quiet and somewhat somber sort that prefers to just get things done, practice with lance and magic, keep guard, and simply do roughly the minimum of what is asked of him otherwise for the faction. His true passion and feelings develop from the somewhat older member of the faction the more he slowly deals with his old goals and concerns with the aid of the hero/heroine, eventually becoming as starry-eyed and lively as most of the youths in active duty. Either way, as a staff wielder, he's always concerned for the health and safety of his comrades, as well as keeping an uncannily sharp eye out for magic mischief, and continuing to develop his martial and magic skills as he makes ever increasing progress in his studies and adventuring with the faction. He also particularly possesses has a high affinity for Laguz(especially true if the Heroine is of a Laguz race and takes him as a lover), and a strong distaste for abusive Laguz slave owners and corrupt mages.

Backstory:
Born and raised as part of a Noble family of the city-state, his early life saw him and his younger siblings surrounded by wealth and easy opportunities galore over the years. This also eventually included the privilege of owning Laguz as slaves, pets, and servants; But despite the shady business behind it all, he was always particularly kind to them, even if to the same extent as one would an ordinary dog in his youth, though it was an honest effort on his part compared to the rest of the family who were at times all too eager to exploit their slaves for little more than amusement or convenience.

As time went on and the siblings all came of age one by one, he would prove to have a higher martial skill and magical affinity compared to the others, but while it earned him honest praise at first, he would be overshadowed faster over time as he lost social favor with his family and those they associated with; Mainly due to the fact that rather than being driven by ambition to climb up in the world and bring glory to the family, he sought more passion and interest in other matters often associated with 'low born habits' and 'sub-human sympathizers', as well as a complete lack of interest in becoming part of the Royal Guards, the church Inquisitors, or even a Laguz merchant despite his namesake; He hardly even cared to be a beast rider of any kind, preferring to feed pegasi and wyverns than tame them for battle. Having been raised in a somewhat sheltered setting overall meant he was tolerant and ignorant of matters within the family, content with what little he was allowed to view and act a part of in his free time and curiosity to meet new people in various areas of the city-state, as well as only trying all the harder to make sure the Laguz at their estate were taken cared of as best as possible in his presence.

He eventually lost the most favor with his family however, when some of his siblings came over one day with an entourage of High Mages from the castle that had come for negotiations and discussions he did not care for as the family met with them. As it turned out, they were there to claim some of the Laguz for their own studies and experiments, but the instant he knew of the apparent discomfort all of the Laguz had as news of this spread in the estate, he would stubbornly remain with the slaves and have a heated dispute with his family and mages to the point he was branded a madman, though not before muscling around with them and purposely blocking magic attempts to remove him, effectively delaying the entire purpose of the meeting with his uproar... This would turn out to be the beginning of the best decision of his life, as he was essentially sent into house arrest in another property held by the family as being disowned or tortured in any way would incite the ire of friends of near equal and lower standings they preferred not to deal with.

During his extended house arrest, he would be stealthily approached by one old friend interested in freeing as many slaves as possible, to which Market was all too happy to inform them how and where best to find the slaves at his own former dwelling at least to begin their endeavor. Happy to know their lives were in good hands, he was at least rewarded by having a somewhat lax house arrest in the years to come. Eventually, and consequentially, he lost more contact and connections with those he had befriended, as well as much of the passion and curiosity he once had, even greatly slacking off where he once excelled with nothing to motivate him, his own name and future dashed into the ground as far as the government was concerned. One day, however, he woke up finally thinking that he should try and find a new spark once more despite his sour mood and constant state of arrest and allowed existence just as an excuse to give other guards a job and reason to train while preventing unwanted ire. He would be met by another posing as a shift guard who was a contact of those remaining as their slave-freeing operations were thwarted more and more each time, and were forced to spread out for good. Market would reluctantly take the one and only chance he'd ever have to escape and start anew, unlikely to impress anyone outside the city-state with what old yet precious armor and gear he could afford to go out with, and slowly regain his skill, strength, vigor, and bloom once more as he rode on a non-descript carriage, and eventually walked into the unknown... His first constant motivation: Find out where the rescued Laguz had been taken to, and see that they came out well.

Quotes:
Confession:
A. Non-Laguz lover: "I once had access to many riches, but nothing compares to that golden heart of yours. You've shown me the greatest of affections; My joy and devotion are yours now to share with... *smooch*"
B. Laguz lover: "..........*pet*..........*caress*..........*gentle stroke*.......... I-If my smile hasn't made it obvious yet.... Yes. I rather like it when you lovingly treat me like a pet too... No, I haven't told anyone of our 'special arrangement' yet, it's our little secret... What? What's so funny...? Well, of course it's hard for me to not do this to you too out in public! I spent years with almost no Laguz company after they were around all the time! To heck with what anyone says, no Beorc can ever be as warm as huggable as a genuinely friendly and grateful Laguz...! But, really, I mean it... I wouldn't do this for just anyone, with just anyone... I do sincerely look forward to us embracing like this, and seeing you smile, time and again...*smooch*"

Critical: "Pierce the heart and banish the soul!"

Enemy Defeat: "I get better with age!"

Death: "Urgh...!! No...! I didn't give it my all....."

Extra Details: Prone to making regretful statements against enemy Laguz, though typically scornful against Laguz leaders for forcing their kin into pointless battles or avoidable danger. Is exceptionally snarky in his dialogue against corrupt Noble warriors, and exceptionally scornful against corrupt mages of any standing. All encounters with opposing family members are heated, though often civil as well. Is also prone to getting about 10% less exp than others of the same level.

Starting Gear:
Shockstick
Javelin
Mend Staff
Elixir
Silver Gem

Personal Skill:

4475146 It's kinda tempting to make a Paralogue/Xenologue as well as support conversations for my character for the Sea of Swords post. Ya fine if i do so?

4475797
Go for it, bro.

4475749
It's good, if a little too long. But that's just me being lazy and kinda glossing through it.

I will say though that when I say personal skill, I mean a skill never seen before and a skill no one else can possibly have, which means you have to make up something new. Also confession quotes are really supposed to be a sentence or two, not a full blown paragraph. Or two for that matter, one of which can be discussed over a support conversation. I appreciate how in-depth your character is, but there is a such thing as being TOO in-depth.

Ugh, I don't mean to complain but as a writer I tend to see flaws in character creation. Even the others have flaws in their characters because most of them resorted to the "kind and lazy" personality trope, which I only did because that's literally how I am in real life including being short tempered and dimwitted.

This is good, but he borders on being a perfect hero with almost no flaws. Not saying to change it because this is still your character and you can keep him if you want. Just keep in mind not to do this again when making a character.

I feel horrible for saying this, I really do, but it had to be said.

4475948 Nah, don't sweat it, I getcha. Again, I'm just not very familiar with the way the newer games really work, so confessions and such are just improvised on my part. That said, the long backstory was me just working out the muse a bit as I very rarely do anything Fire Emblem related, so I kept winging it. Really, I just wanted to give a concept idea not far off from what the games offer, if it makes sense.

As for the looking like a perfect hero...? I dunno how to explain that one since since aside from the average growth total(yes, average; the latest games have growth totals at about 400%, his is 370%), this is sorta intended as a character with a Seth-like role in arriving with above average base stats(though not as impressive as the Silver Knight's) and provide an uncommon multi-purpose role and survival while at least rarely never gaining stats even if he's not likely to get much to begin with. Combinations of magic and weapon users have gotten more common at least, so I wanted to go with something sensible like a Staff wielder feeling comfortable holding a different kind of stick for combat. The armor decorating thing I'll explain some more, since the idea is that at this point the army has grown and so has the members relationship with one another, the drawings and such just being an excuse to entertain some of the more jovial members while also being a way to showcase how the Hero/Heroine's army has come closer and they can afford to decorate more of their members under a formal banner. The closest parallel would be Volke's event driven upgrade so long as he hasn't been injured badly in combat prior and can finally show his full potential, and less something like Eliwood or Hector's very story-meaningful class upgrades.

Plus, if the other issue were his riches prior, then there's nothing to it. Upon house arrest, he was effectively cut off from the grand majority of the family wealth. All he's got left is to once again polish his skills, get back in shape, and find a new venue where he can do more than he ever got to. Anything else he could lay claim to would have to be old friends and contacts he can try to work along with, give some advice, and maybe dig up a little bit more unused riches to support the army if given the chance; The rest is all on him and surviving to the end along with everyone else.

4476113
I wasn't talking about stats, those are fine, I was talking about personality. His personality just seems... bland and generic. Again not bad, but just... I swear I've seen that character in other things before. Why not next time make a character based off you and your personalities instead of hammering in hatred of slavery and literally everything that makes a character a "Mary Sue" type character.

(And I'm not familiar with Laguz, but that's probably because I've never played the Tellius games before)

And play Awakening and Fates! Nothing's stopping you to my knowledge. That's why I asked for personal skills and confession quotes. Just pick up a New 3DS or something, or better yet emulate the game on your computer. Trust me, you'll love them if you like Fire Emblem.

4476156 I don't have the moneyyyyy. .A.

But if you ever do another one of these, I may of course try and refine all the things; Maybe exaggerate that the reason he has an affinity to Laguz is that he's also a closet Furry and/or can't pet dead Laguz, cause that's just weird. I was still a fun exercise all things considered. How much of my own personality I actually add will come another time.

Finally got to update. I think my unit would fit as one of the first promoted units you get during mid-game. Also I have no idea if the chances are balanced
