Let me just start off but saying HOLY CRAP!!!!
So in my second blog post that I know no one will read and for the most part is just a journal entry, I'm going to gripe about editing. So far I am doing all the editing by myself. Whilst I am consciously aware that this is a flawed plan, unconsciously I am loath to bring an editor on board.
Be it a simple matter of pride, stubbornness or just being too shy to share this with anyone else, I have made the decision and now I am stuck with it. At the time of this post I'm about 10,500 words or so in, and the amount of time I spend editing this is ENORMOUS. In fact it is the main reason I am only 10,500 words in.
Every time I go to start writing, I decide to go over it again from the beginning and amend anything I see wrong. And every time I do, it takes hours as I find something wrong each time! Even from the first chapter! It is eating so much into the time I set aside to write each day, that some days are just spent editing. Like today.
My main fear is that I will continue to do so right up until I publish the first chapter. In fact, I have almost come to terms with this, and it is now sort of a goal. Once I release the first chapter, it will be the end of the editing process for it, with only obvious spelling and grammar mistakes being corrected. And I do still expect there to be some. Somehow.
So. Schedule. I'm looking at releasing the first chapter when I have the first arc done, at about the 10 chapter mark. That will give me a good buffer for EDITING and writing the second arc in which I intend to finish this story on. So expect about 20 chapters and a possible Epilogue.
We'll see where we go from there. If it is well received, I may consider sequel or trilogy. That would be nice. Or if it goes down in flames, at least I would have learned from the experience.
