Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City/ DLC 2 (DS3 SPOILERS) · 5:27pm Jan 23rd, 2017
OK OK OK!
Definitely not Londor, by the looks of things. Here's a few things I noticed about the trailer quite early on.
1) Locations: The first areas they show are the surrounding areas to the Kiln of The First Flame in the base game. This causes me to believe that one will need to reach the Kiln before this DLC can be accessed. And after that the trailer shows a second area, much more intact than the city beside the Kiln. This could mean the DLC exists in two different city locations, which is good I guess. One ruined fucked up city in contrast with a heavenly looking intact one. The contrasts are there.
Then there's a slightly less nightmarish version of the Farron Keep, a swamp that reminds me of the very first area in the game, 'Graveyard of Ash' or something like that, I can't quite remember the full name, you're there for like ten minutes. Then theres an underground'y part with a giant fire boss guy in it that looks like The Old Demon King on steroids.
This is a very good thing concerining the size of the DLC. Ashes of Ariandel was notoriously short. Taking place in one large area with two bosses plus a PvP arena. There was about three to four hours of PvE content which was frustrating to some players. This has four different areas which may or may not suggest this could be a bit longer. Hoo-fucking-ray! Anything with at least 2x the play time will be the bare minimum for me. But something 2.5x the length (Roughly) would be cool.
2) Weapons and Spells: One for Sorcerers and one for Clerics. Well the one for Sorcerers looks more like an INT scaling blade of sorts but you know what I mean. The INT BLADE as I'm gonna' call it appears to be a straight sword which can give itself a magic blade... simple enough. And the cleric miracle appears to be either a bow made of lightning or a bow which can infuse itself in lightning much like the afore-mentioned INT BLADE. Apart from that, no physical damage weapons as of yet. However I'm curious about the golden flag pole or whatever it is. Not sure if it's a weapon or some sort of plot device.
3) Characters and Lore: Whatever this DLC's lore is, it has some deeper connection with the Dark Sign. Which is also amazing because we know next to nothing about the Dark ign outside of 'It appeared on humans after Gwyn linked the fire so that humans would feel obliged to use it to keep linking the fire'. There's a woman with a cracked white orb who looks to have crystalised tears or something. A reference to Caitha, Godess of Tears? Who knows. There's not much we know about this at the moment, the tralier hasn't revealed much. There's also another pilgrim who, judging by the way pilgrims all seem to talk, is probably narrating the trailer.
One last note. I'm excited to see how long this is gonna' be in comparison to AoA, which used vanilla bosses to fill time in the trailer. This didn't do that, so is that a sign that they don't need to fill space because the DLC has some actual meat on it's bones? Guess we'll just have to wait until March.
