Christmas in January · 5:02pm Jan 9th, 2017
A chubby changeling sat at the breakfast table, tapping the tips of his hooves together. He chewed his lip, mindful of his fangs, trying not to stare as his friend's bright blue eyes skimmed down the page. Carapace ran a hoof through his messy blue mane before reaching for his fork to spear the last mouthful of pancake from his place.
"So," Maple started once he found his voice, "how is it?"
"One sec." Licking his lips of any lingering syrup, Carapace flipped the last page over and set the story down on the table. His wings buzzed as he steepled his black, chitinous hooves together. "Okay, done."
Maple swallowed. "And?"
"It's sweet, cutesy, and fun—it's great! Pumpkin's going to love it. There is one problem, though."
Ears drooping, Maple dropped his rust-coloured eyes to the story. It was thin, admittedly, but at the same time, it felt too long and felt like it took too long to write. "What's wrong with it? I can fix it!"
"The only problem—" Quick as the pegasi he loved to imitate, Carapace darted forward and booped Maple's snout. "—is that you haven't given it to her already, you ninny! What're you waiting for?"
"I just want to make sure it's good," Maple said, rubbing his nose and scratching at his rusty, curled mess of a mane.
"It is good, dork." Rolling his eyes, Carapace pushed the story across the table. "Now go give it to her already. Hearth's Warming was yesterday."
"I know, I know. But what if she doesn't like it?"
"Maple, are you seriously not going to give it to her?" A smirk played over his lips. "Even after Alto went to all the trouble of making the cover? Are you really not going to let his work be seen because of a little nervousness?"
Maple opened his mouth to respond, then clicked it shut. A whine built up from the back of his throat and he put his head in his hooves. "Okay. Okay! I'll give it to her!"
"Good."
Peeking out from behind his hooves, Maple spared his friend a glare. "That was a low, dirty blow."
"Yup." Carapace grinned. "Love you, too."
Yup, you heard it right from the horse's changeling's mouth. A new story is incoming later today. It was finished a little while ago as a gift for Fahrenheit. Now that a couple weeks have passed since Christmas, I have spoken to her about it and has given me the go-ahead to publish it here!
Expect to see it either in a few hours from now when I have my break or when I get home from work. Either way, it's going up before we start getting into the double-digits of January.
Happy Monday, everyone!
PUBLISH THE FUCKIN' FIC, MAPLE!
